Multiple Servers??

I got a question about having multiple servers for hosting. I figured a lot of you guys would know all about this

Anyway, how exactly does that work? Does the host set up a cluster or what?

Like if I wanted one for videos and one for MySQL and scripts and maybe a third for something else, how do you use them all together like that?

I know in the Windows world, you would set up DNS Zones and shit, but I prefer to use Unix for web servers, so I'm not sure of the equivalent in that world.

same thing, and you can put all your servers on a private vlan and get a load balancer, etc.

how much bandwidth you planning on using?

Would I have to set everything up or would the host do it?

And for actually linking stuff, you would could just do it with subdomains, couldn't you?

Like:

Server1= media.domain.com
Server2= sql.domain.com

or is there a different way?

Its the same thing on unix or windows

SQL server would be:

sql.domain.com

WWW server would be

www.domain.com

and if you wanted to grow further you can put:

sql2.domain.com
and
www2.domain.com

The WWW servers you can load balance via Round Robin DNS

The SQL servers can be setup in a master/slave

This is a high performance setup for sites doing over 1,000,000 hits usually.

Check with the guys at www.RealityCheckNetwork.com -- they are very experienced in handling these types of setups.

I would love to have the need for one of these:

http://www.mysql.com/products/cluster/

It's a clustered mySQL solution... pretty bad-ass and rather cheap vs a MS SQL cluster...

Yah, subdomains would be the way to do it, just setup DNS entries for each subdomain, etc.

A good host should do it all for you, if you want them to.

Ping me on ICQ, and lets talk, we have load balanced, and multiple server distribution setups for bunch of clients already.

Our techs are top notch engineers, and will be able to handle everything for you.

Thanks for the help guys. As far as hosting goes, I currently have a server with Server Matrix, so I'll probably just get another one from them.

Main reason being I hate re-uploading and restoring everything on a new host. For the record, I also hate moving in real life

exp0sed,

We run many load balanced server clusters, as many of the larger programs prefer this setup. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have we'd love to work with you on your project. We set up everything including transferring your content for you.

Server Matrix has an affordable load-balanced cluster solution:
