yo rich people, what do you do about family??

yo this question is for the rich webmasters/sponsors here. What do you do about your family? do you like set em up with stuff? give them free cash?? what??

Im saying cuz lets assume im pulling $50k/month and my sister is there working 5hrs/day to make like $100/week, what happens, is it just fair to give her money???

or what?

Assuming your family doesnt know jack about computers so cant help with hosting/design/etc..

I prefer to help people achieve their goals. For example, my younger brother is interested in a career in photo journalism, so for his birthday I bought him $2000 worth of camera equipment and paid for 1 year at a photography school.

If their goal is running a business and they're passionate about it and they've created a business plan and everything is ready to go except that they need some start-up funds, then I would consider being an investor (note: not giving them money).

My point is, don't just hand people money, but consider giving them financial support to help them achieve their goals.

This is definitely something to give a lot of thought. I avoid doing business with friends or family, unless I'm comfortable with losing all of my investment.

It's a tough call, every situation is different. When someone is broke, you can often solve a lot of their money problems by just giving them money to keep their head above water, but unless you solve the underlying financial problems (ie: lack of income), they're going to keep falling behind and you'll just be back to where you started (plus they'll feel like they owe you for your previous support).

Well, if it were easy, you probably wouldn't have started this thread.

As far as setting up people with a source of income, it really helps if the person has some kind of initiative to do something already, but is just lacking the funds to do it. On the other hand, if the person is just a complete couch potato with no initiative or goals, then setting them up with a source of income or helping them achieve their goals is nearly impossible.

Basically, all you can do is add money to the equation, they have to take it the rest of the way.

Im not rich but I am comfortable. I basicaly do what Brisk mentioned. Luckily my family consists of hard workers so I don't have to bail them out much but if anyone needs a nudge in the right direction I give it to them whether it be raw cash or some other form of help.

I know one thing for sure. No one in my family will EVER go without. Its important to take care of your blood. If things ever came crashing down for me I know they would help me.

Siblings can fend for themselves.

My parents did well for themselves, but I show my appreciation for giving birth to me with gifts. In 2000 I bought them both a car of their choice and then again this year did the same thing.

There are a lot of freeloaders out there and their numbers multiply when they know you have cash.

once you start supporting family members, they become a cancer to your financial situation....

better off just giving them reallllly nice birthday presents. =)

not at all, most lenders will cut you off and shit on your face if you come to them with spammed mortgage leads. Besides, theres not much money in just selling the leads the way mailers do. The money is in working with the applicants and the lenders.

tell the family to save any money you give them, because you won't be rich very long.

What they have saved will help you in your future humble moments

I would never give my sistser a god damned penny because she should be dating or married to a guy who can do that for her.

Now my mother is another story. I fully support her. I bought her a car and a condo in Florida and also send her money every month.

God bless her.

I offered to make a down payment for a new house for my sister but she hasn't taken me up on it so far. I'll buy all the nieces and nephews a beater car when they turn 16 and I'll pay their tuition if they go to college.

Kind of hard to do too much when we're on opposite coasts.
