Don't donate money to the police

A couple weeks it I was asked over the phone for a small donation for some police thing.. I told them I would contribute.

A week later another call asking for a small donation for some fire fighters thing.. I contributed

A few days later I was asked to donate to some veterans thing.. I contributed, gotta support the vets

Yesterday It was some program that helps children in need.. can't argue with that got to help children

Today it was some stupid narcotics awareness thing.. I told them I am done contributing

See I made one small donation and now they got me on some calling list. I don't mind helping good causes.. but come on everyday..

How do you guys handle these types of calls?

I donated money in the past and didnt get contacted by any other organization.

I had a similar situation. I gave money to the oregon cheif of police drug awareness/DARE program and within a few months I was getting hounded. I would get 3-5 calls a week from people wanting me to donate.

Was it the police deal where they send decals to the contributers?

I never donate when asked I hate to be bothered I donate when I want too. I hate being bothered is that bad of me?

funny, i bought a truck when i was 19 with that sticker on it and that truck had never gotten pulled over while i owned it

I had the same problem......donated to the police and bam got hit with a million calls.

I once got a call to donate to the Vietnam Veterans wheelchair basketball team......true story.

That's kind of scary, as the order you put those phone calls in is the exact same order of the organizations that got me to donate: police, firemen, veterans and then some kids group.

Hate to burst your bubble but a whole lot and I mean a whole lot of those are national charity organizations that hit people city by city. Fact is little to no money at all will reach the local level, ussually none. Then a very small percentage that is ussually 15% or less is donated at a national level, the rest is kept by the company. Then to make matters even worse, one company will often own several charities and share their contributors lists with each other.
They are a sucker telemarketer scam that is able to walk around the do not call list to rip you off in the name of a good cause. If you do not believe me give your local police, sheriff, or fire station a call and ask about this "charity".
