Networks refuse to go along with debate rules!!

Specifically, the networks object to provisions in the agreement that place limits on their cameras, including prohibitions on shots of one candidate while the other is answering questions.

"Because of journalistic standards, we're not going to follow outside restrictions," said Paul Schur, a spokesman for Fox News, which is manning the pool camera for the first debate Thursday in Miami, Florida.

"This is a news pool, and we are not subject to agreements between candidates," NBC News spokeswoman Barbara Levin said. "We will use pictures as we see fit."

CNN spokesman Matthew Furman said the network "reserves the right to make our own decisions about coverage during the debate, just as we always have."

ABC News and CBS News are also objecting to the limits, with a CBS spokeswoman insisting that "we will utilize any shots the pool makes available."

Also, at least two of the television journalists chosen to moderate the debates -- ABC's Charles Gibson and CBS's Bob Schieffer -- have not signed the agreement on ground rules hammered out between the two campaigns, according to their networks.

the "rules" for this debate are whack

bush doesnt want"

him or kerry to be able to ask each other questions directly.
supplied list of all questions to be asked before hand
camera angles as he sees fit.

was listening to stern the other morning when driving home from the casino's - he said the best thing kerry could do to win this thing is to get up there, look bush in the eyes and say, "look, this is a debate, not a preset q&a series here... why don't i just ask you some questions, you answer them, and then you ask me and i answer them - enuff w/ the b/s already"

Indeed..in fact a lot of people think it was Kerry's aggresive style in his debates with William Weld in the 1996 senatorial election that pulled it out for him.

I DO hope he gets in Bush's face (though NBC reported tonite that both men plan to be "nice" to each other. HOW BORING! )

A: Howard Stern is a fucking moron and should stick to fart jokes.

B: If they could ask the other questions, both these guys would be toast and we'd be looking for new candidates the next day.

In the UK under the Thatcher goverment the conservative party decided that they would not appear in front of a camera unless they had a list of the questions that were to be asked, the right to romaove and add questions and this list was stuck to.

They were manipulating the interviews.

It came to an end when on live TV a member of parliment actually said, "That question was not on the list" and "You know I'm not answering that question, it was removed from the list"

Then the interview stopped when the inerviewee got up and walked out.

These people are hungry and desperate for exposure, the TV stations should just tell them not to turn up. Let it be a prgram with only one candidate. See how long it's before the other guy turns up under any rules.
