it's ok, all my data has already been lost.... even when i reformat the partition keeps losing system files, mainly nt ones....it boots for a hr, then blue screen of death. i will just go get an external one tomorrow since my data and 25 page report has already been lost.
i have my notes, and an espresso maker, looks like tomorrow i'll be up all night...

Interesting timing, I had an HD crash in my Dell Laptop last Friday. Only lost a week's worth of data but enough to really irritate me. Best of luck Mary.

all my data was on the www.spss.com program which was lost. no point is trying to enter 4 hours worth of data into a chi-square, when my system won't even config windows update. and to make matters worse i broke 2 nails trying to unscrew it.

FYI:
If its letting you install windows and its working then loosing files right away its just as likely to be the IDE controller as the HD. Good luck.

if you getting the blue screen in XP, then that means a constant hardware failure...and if your losing files immediatly from startup, it probably is more than your hard drive

laptop drives are a pain :/ if it was just a desktop hard drive i could send you out a couple.
