I would share people's discouragement, but if you're set on caring for a tiger, how about taking in a retired zoo or circus tiger? Or one from someone who bought it as a baby but couldn't handle the commitment when it was an adult?
Yeah, they're not cute little fuzzballs, but that cuteness won't last long anyway, and the retirees and rescuees are the ones that really need some care. So many people are drawn to pets in their cute baby stage, but wouldn't consider caring for a homely adult.
Getting an adult also lessens your lifespan commitment - a new tiger might live 20 years, while a retired zoo tiger is probably within 5 years of its death. Makes for a sort of "test drive" while you see if you really like caring for tigers.Comment

I had a friend that got a cougar cub. Of course he lived in the back woods of Oregon. Was a great pet.. And he figured if needed he could release it into the wild. You can't really do that with a tiger. I haven't spoken to him in years but I don't think he ever got ride of it.

These are the questions I ask myself when buying a pet.
1) Does it weigh more than me?
2) Can it Kill me?
3) does it look at me as lunch, and not its owner?
if more than two of these are true, then I walk away.
