				 | I agree, I've seen braille in other places that seem ridiculous. I'm not sure but it might have something to do with some sort of government regulation requiring access for people with dissabilities. Maybe next they'll require braille labels in cars, too

				 | If a blind person needs money and the bank is closed, the only way they can get it is through an ATM. So a few options are: ATMs use standard number pads and buttons, it's cheaper to just use the same ones for all machines instead of special non-brail just for the drive up. Or If there are not other ATMs around and a blind person must go to the bank, their friend (or somebody) could drive them over to the ATM and that way they are still secure without giving out their pin number.

				 | Drive-up ATM buttons are marked with braille because federal regulations require it. To be specific, section 4.34.4 of the ADA Accessibility Guidelines for Buildings and Facilities (Appendix to Part 1191, 36 CFR Chapter XI, issued pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990) says, "Instructions and all information for use [of an automated teller machine] shall be made accessible to and independently usable by persons with vision impairments." Drive-up ATMs, unlike the walk-up variety, don't need to be wheelchair accessible, but the rules make no exception regarding accessibility by the blind. |

				 | A funny thing to do to blind people, is to sneak into their home and leave the plunger in the toilet. |

				 | Yep - the numbers have to be braille, of course to actually do anything with the machine you have to be able to read the touch screen. |
