When the scandal broke at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq we were all horrified. Under no circumstances should such tatics be employed in a military prison, or any prison for that matter.

The difference is that under Sadamm abuse was wide spread, expected, and accepted as a way of life. Under the United States this is a crime, and this woman will be punished. Yahoo News reports this morning that Lynndie England could get 38 years in a military prison.

I'm sorry, there are over a hundred thousand members of the US military in Iraq and there are gonna be some bad apples. And when we find them we punish them because they have broken our laws.

This woman's life is over. She's knocked up and about to have the baby of her freakish boyfriend who will also go to jail. And when she gets out she has no hope of being a productive member of society - no one will hire her.

Members of our military have to answer to a higher authority, and this women will pay for what she did.

I spent four years in the US Marines. The rules dealing with POWs were very clear and explained to us in detail as to what was accepted and what was clearly not. acceptable. This was acted out again and again during war games.

I'm not saying there isn't someone higher up that approved of this. But she obviously enjoyed doing this, and she must have known this was wrong.

No one has stated publically that anyone lost their life in the prison.... But photos of what apprear to be dead prisonors have surfaced. Why in the world the press hasn't focused on this fact surprises me. They've either been told to shut about it (doubtful with freedom of the press) or there was no story there.

And no, we aren't killing civilians every day. I'll admit some people get caught in the cross fire, but it's not the US is intentionally hunting down innocent people. Sorry, but if we bomb a building we think have people building bombs and a three year child is in the building.... It happens.

In concept a soldier follows orders - but the soldier still knows right from wrong, and should damn well know when they are breaking the law.

And yes, all of those involved right up the chain of command should be punished. Right up the very top, including the President if he had any knowledge of what was going on.
