Who knows about samuri swords?

thinking of getting a folded steel samuri sword - they seem to be in the $1000 range for reasonable ones.

anyone got any insight into this?

The price does not at all matter other than how much you are going to say you spent on it and the relative look of the sword, there is one exception.

Unfortunately no Japanese steel is allowed to leave the islands. I have plenty of Chinese Tai Chi swords, 3 of which were forged by a master swordsforger and stamped but my only Samurai Sword is a Blind Fury which I purchased because the legend of the blind samurai has been one of my favorites since I became a martial artist.

The one exception is Paul Chen, this is the ONLY sword that I will spend over 50.00 on that is of straight or curved samurai styling. If your sword was created by Paul then it is worth every penny of it, the swords are beautiful, the "Water wave" is real and not etched and the sword is the most functional and balanced for combat that I have ever touched.

I believe my Bling Fury is a Paul Chen and it has been used in combat at a Ren. Festival by a friend whom I let borrow it not knowing what he had planned for it. I got it back and there were nicks on the sword face and I asked him about it. He told me it held up nicely to the broad swords of some of the "knights" and broke some cheap swords. I was kinda pissed but happy at the same time. Go with the Chen's they are very well balanced and as close to Jap steel as we are going to get untill the embargo is lifted.

Bastard broke my scabbard also, I have the whole thing sanded down but can not find the time to bond the wood and re-laquer.

I hear Sumari swords are better, but Samiri swords are more bang for the buck.

Get one made by Massamune's descendants. They cost an arm and a leg but they're worth it.

Like any good businessman Paul produces for multiple income levels. Look up the Blue Opel line if you are looking for a nicer sword, mine is on the way. How much strength do you need in a sword that is going to be sitting on the wall? Even if you were an active martial artist the only time you would use the sword is in exhibition so anything made by a reputable producer would do.

a sword on the wall that has no strength is like having a gun but no bullets

Sorry didn't spell Masamune right in my previous post.

"What made his swords Unique, besides the artwork on the swords crafted, were that they were tempered in a way that made them Extremely sharp but not brittle at all and when they were held they was almost weightless"

Can't find the link to their website... going to get one myself in the future. Made by the 24th generation of descendants of course. As an original one is priceless.

Go with a custom Authentic Japanese Sword... of course its not even close to a masamune blade but then again what is.

http://swordstore.com/cgi-bin/htmlos.../1jpsword.html

Personally I'd get a 32 inch black polished blade with the God of War and Mischief on the handles but thats just me.

It takes about 4 months to build...

Actually a sword in the hands of someone who does not have an understanding of Budo is like having a gun with no bullets, do not know if you have trained or not.

Vlad, no japanese samurai sword can leave the island, I actually own 2 swords that will probably never see a day outside of the Gunma area. I get to visit when I go to Japan though

Get a Hitori Hanzo sword! Sorry could not resist

Hattori Hanzo was a famous ninja... don't know what Tarantino was on to name his blacksmith after him.

Check out this place, I bought several items from them and they are fast and professional (and Canadian so no tax if you reside outside of Sask) also there are no border issues or crazy duty charges

Maybe try Sothebys or a private collector. The steel stuff you can buy online is crap.

A few years back as a lot of WWII vets passed away there were quite a number of swords up for auction, I got a nice one that was captured in the Philippines.
