:1orglaugh You don't know squat, T1 is not 10 Mbits

T1 = 1.54 Mbits

http://www.dls.net/services/t1.phtml

Overview

T-1 (or DS-1) is a dedicated digital connection supporting data rates of 1.54 Megabits per second, approximately 27 times the speed of an analog 56k dialup.

My cable is 3mbps. I only get about 400k uploads, though.

Fred Quimby 09-26-2004 06:29 AM

My speed for OOL

Your download speed : 4468062 bps, or 4363 kbps.
A 545.4 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 933096 bps, or 911 kbps.

and thats through my new linksys wireless router:winkwink:

Most cable companies offer 3 Mbps standard now. Cox cable has 4 Mbps for $40 amonth and has a 5 Mbps for like $15 more( or something like that ). Comcast is upgrading to 4 Mbps standard.

I have 3 mbps down, nothing special

3 mbps upstream would be nice

Quite a few cable modem providers are working on the 30mbit series of modems & CMTS's - the future is good for cable.

But to answer you 5.5 mbit is the highest residential line I have ever heard of. 3mbit is definitely the most common.

If you want to go comercial there is no limit. It might take 2 months to install but you could get a 100mbit line.... if the price was right.

EDIT. 3bit is about 375KB/second. Also, most cable modem providers cap their upload at 10% of the DL :(

m4rk4s 09-26-2004 11:27 AM

the max theoretical speed on cable is 37mb/s

..so you'd need like 25 lines

Vitasoy 09-26-2004 11:44 AM

I'm on a capped 1.4mbps line. It sucks.

Metalink to Show Deployment Ready 100 Mbps VDSLPlus(TM) at Networld + Interop 2004 Tokyo, Japan

The demonstration will be powered by Metalink's ultra-fast VDSLPlus chipsets, which deliver 100 Mbps downstream and 50 Mbps upstream, the fastest VDSL speeds available.

Qwest offers VDSL but not sure if they will allow you the max speeds

There is also VDSL in the US and Canada

sweandy 09-26-2004 02:19 PM

I've just ordered 24mbit adsl2 to my home for $50 per month. And i live in a small city so it's abit after the larger places where you can get 100mbit fiber at home for like $40/month.
