Jeanne aftermath from Melbourne, Fl (pics)

Took a little ride around the area today and snaped a few shots of the destruction to the Melbourne Florida area caused by hurricane Jeanne.

This business had just moved. I think they are just using it for personal storage... but the door went away with last nights wind.

One of the many fallen telephone poles along US Hwy 1

A caved in piece of pavement from the river errosion along US Hwy 1.

One of the local marinas and an unlucky boat owner.

A view from the Melbourne Causeway bridge. The police will only allow residents or media across still.

Sometimes boarding up the place just isn't enough to protect your business.

One of the beach access boardwalks. Washed away as many of them are.

Even as the wind dies down, the ocean still is pretty violent.

You have to keep a look out for these damn things. Traffic lights are hanging and laying everywhere.

Used to be a local outside cafe.

A storage shed at one of the beachfront motels along A1A.

Another leaning pole. Looks like a lor of us will be without power and other utilities for a while. I am so glad to have power this time. Frances took our power for 9 days! This time no phone, That I can live without.

Another beach access made into a cutom diving board for now.

Side of the beachside Raddisson Hotel close up.

Same hotel

No gas from this 7 11 for quite a while I think.

Surprised this did not cause a fire. The one pump is totally crushed!

Riverview drive. This line was down and laying across the road.

A boat that got lost from the marina and washed up on the Eau Gallie Causeway from mainland to beachside.

Got thirsty and had to head home for a drink. There is not a damn thing open anywhere. That's just a few of the shots, I took 123 pictures on this outting.

I turned around in that drive, but did not go back into the neighborhood crockett. There is a 12:00 curfue here. But, if you are not able to contact her let me know and I will ride over to check on her and the house. There is a lot of damage around Jim Rathman and the old bus station, the sink hole is right there in that area too. Seriously guy, if you need us to ride over there just let me know and I am gone

na it's not a big deal they are up north and the house is empty.. it was acually sold but the buyers can't get insurance on it because of all the storms. We have some other family in the area that will check it out.

I saw Rathman's on the news, they are lucky those polls didn't go all the way over, looked like every poll there was broken.

BTW all the flooding they keep showing on the news, they said it's in down town melboure somewhere but I can't figure out where by the pics.. You have any Idea? looks like somewhere down by the river.

Must be down in the old section by Hwy192 (Strawbridge) cause everywhere we traveled here on the north side was pretty dry, even beachside. The cops won't let you over the bridge unless you live there or are media. Glad we had our press pass with us. The area around Rathman is bad and I expect that sinkhole to grow overnight. Bet it takes out the eastern part of US 1.

All of our fellow webmasters in Melbourne and Florida are welcome.
We know first hand how rough this past month has been for all of us with the storms, POWER LOSS, property damage and stress.
Funny thing for us is that I have been on FPL for almost a year to get my area corrected for power loss, even due to minimal wind or rain. It has always been the same grid of 66 customers that go out, yet they have never been able to determine the reason why. Now that we had a virtual army of power people from around the US come to Florida to help, turns out some guys from Ohio figure the problem out so that we did not lose our power during this storm. A BIG thank you goes out to all of the men and women that left their homes and family to come to Florida in our time of need. A special thanks to the people of PIKE to finally figure out the problem on our grid and have it repaired in time for this storm. We are glad to see more and more of the Florida people checking in now and know that they are alright.

After seeing all of this destruction of property, why would anyone want to live in Florida? The vulture sized mosquitoes was enough to drive me out of that state, but if that wasn't good enough, stuff like this would clinch it.
