Virus Getting Worse

I was getting around 100 emails an hour with an attachment that contained a virus. It has slowed to about 25 an hour. However, a couple of times I recieved an email, My Norton alert popuped up and I was forced to Quarantine the virus that came through. How am I getting the alert if I did NOT open the email? and can I delete the quarantined file? This is getting scarier by the day.
thanks,
Lanie

The quarantined viruses are probably unrelated - just normal everyday malicious emails. I have had that happen recently, too. You can delete the quarantined file through Norton without a problem. Just follow the instructions carefully.

HTB, Iam having the exact thing happening. yes when norton catches at first you see it asks what to do. It recommends to repair it, but when you say yes, it then says unable to repair and suggests to Quaranteen it. That works. Then yes you can delete it from the quaranteen. I actually got the damm virus 2 weeks ago..Like a fool I opened 1 of them..LOL.. so after 70 dollars for a Norton tech to walk me through on phone how to repair registry and other things that got fucked, I learned my damm lesson...

What exactly is listed in your quarantine? You probably just have a "normal" email virus, which Norton picked up by scanning the attachment. Norton never notifies me about this new email virus, but it does notify me about older ones, and I think that's the case here. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I was getting about 100-150 virus Emails a day at my site mailbox, all from the same address. I started accessing my mail directly from the server via my host's web page admin, to avoid downloading all that crap. Then I downloaded two of them without opening them (I use Outlook Express). You can copy (Ctrl+C) a highlighted letter in OE without opening it and see what's inside as far as text. I pasted that text, which includes the sender's email address, and sent it to my host's tech support. Within 24 hours I was down to ZERO virus emails from that address and only have had one since, from another address. If you can, see what your Email host can do to block the address on their server. If you use Yahoo or similar, use their website to check email and DELETE unopened anything you don't recognize.

I have to say this has got to be the worst outbreaks I have ever seen as far as a virus spreading. I too was up to about 100/hr before I started blocking them at the server.

Pain in the ass...

The sender is infected, and probably doesn't know they are themselves sending out infected emails.
