Needless to say i wont deal with any outsource company anymore.

The misscommunications drive me nuts. The lack of english, the lack of knowledge and the lack of knowing how to do business drive me nuts as well.

Tip for everybody: Spend a few 100 bucks more and find someone who knows what he is doing.

I tried one out as a test to build one simple landing page and they passed it on to one of their designers who said he completely undertstood the instructions and that I was there on ICQ for any questions and everyone knew I had a deadline and then they went off ICQ and the deadline came and went and I finally get a message from the boss that the designer didn't understand what I wanted so he went home.

i've only tried out one outsourcing company, they did my work for REALLY cheap, work was delivered a week late.. it didnt bother me though, their low price and poor english kept my happy and entertained while i waited

Well believe me when i tell you the poor english drove me nuts.
They snail mailed me stuff and im amazed it arrived since they couldnt spell 1 name/word on the package correctly. Icq messages i have to reread 10 times before i understand what theyre saying. i know just what you mean.. the only way that i could make out what they were trying to say is because they'd use smilies after every few words.. this made it easier

The solution isn't always to cut out outsourcing - but perhaps chose better outsourcing companies in better locations. Canada is the next India for outsourcing centers, and we speak fluent english (and french, spanish, dutch, you name it).

I've used a couple as well. I have had nothing but a problem with these companies.

1 of them I paid nearly a thousand dollars, and it took them nearly 3 weeks to get back to me once they received the $. I contacted them after they received my funds, and got no response for 3 weeks. Then once I finally got in touch with them, it was such a hassle to get the work done because the guy the assigned to me was a total idiot and didn't know anything.

The other did such shitty work that I refuse to ever work with another of these companies.

As I have pointed out in other threads it takes lots and lots of work to do this. You really have to work with GOOD people, and believe me, many of these guys are indeed no-goods with often very poor knowledge/experience. Dont take anything for granted and if anything seems suspicious it often is. Ninety percent will tell you what you want is a piece of cake, they´ve done that 100 times etc - let the alarms go off. A few advice (from working with this during 5-6 years):

DO NOT work with Indian/Pakistani developers if you dont have to. I have nothing against them and many are good but, the difference in culture/ethics/moral are just TO big if you are an "outsourcing-newbie". Indians are a very nice and friendly people, BUT, they may often be found very lengthy and hard to deal with - its often like talking to marsians. Best, and I mean best, is to get Baltic or Russian developers. The best we´ve had so far are the Belarussian guys.

The pros are many - we are very much alike (that goes for you americans aswell, I am talking a western world perspective), the time diff isnt as big (well, in europe anyway) and the peeps are DEFINETELY much easier to work with. Having Indian developers may many times be compared to babysitting - they just arent used to work independently and need rigorous attention + specs to follow. Russian/Baltic developers , on the contrary, find solutions to problems. You tell them what you want and they make it work. They, in most ways, are much better to work with for, at least, the small/medium webmaster.
