Yeah this was a big thing like 4-5 years ago when cable became a big thing. They have changed the system so much that at this point its very hard to do and when you get caught which you will they will terminate your service.

Depends on your provider, how smart they are, what version of DOCSIS they are running, and much much more.

DOCSIS 1.0 was most likely one of the easiest to hack the firmware on. DOCSIS 1.1 and 2.0 has ServiceFlows/Multiple QoS's not to mention there is lots of players in the OSS Software field that sold firmware/qos checkers to major tier-1's.

I was an engineer for a cable provider for a few years, I can usually give you an answer on this one pretty quickly depending on the modem/provider.

Who do you get your internet from that you only get 1.8 Mbps? That's crap. I'm with Charter on 3 Mbps and run at about 2.6 Mbps

2004-09-22 22:46:30 EST: 4100 / 667
Your download speed : 4198927 bps, or 4100 kbps.
A 512.5 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 683093 bps, or 667 kbps.

I can live with this.
