The second thing to understand is Aristotle's idea of 'natural law,' which is basically 'the natural order of things' or 'how nature works.' In the 13th century, Thomas Aquinas took the idea one step further: he defined natural law as 'God's divine law' -- which, he argued, is the eternal law of the universe.
