Mother of Dead US Solidier Arrested for Questioning Laura Bush

In classic anti-free speech form, a mother of a dead U.S. soldier was arrested for questioning Lauara Bush at a Bush event.

HAMILTON, New Jersey (CNN) -- The mother of a soldier killed in Iraq was arrested Thursday in Hamilton, New Jersey, after interrupting a campaign speech by first lady Laura Bush. As police hauled her away, she shouted, "Police brutality."

Wearing a T-shirt with the message "President Bush You Killed My Son," Sue Niederer of nearby Hopewell screamed questions at the first lady as the audience tried to drown her out by chanting, "Four more years! Four more years!"

She pressed on, refused to leave and eventually police removed her from the firehouse rally.

The first lady finished her speech, praising the administration's achievements in the war on terror and the economy.

Outside, Niederer said she wanted to ask Laura Bush "Why the senators, the legislators, the congressmen, why aren't their children serving?"

She went on to blame the president for the death of her 24-year-old son, Army First Lieutenant Seth Dvorin. He was killed while trying to defuse a roadside bomb that exploded on him.

"My son was in the Army, and he was killed February third this year," she said.

As the Hamilton police and Secret Service agents surrounded her and reporters pressed her with questions, she held her ground, claiming "I had my ticket" to attend the speech by the first lady.

Police subsequently handcuffed her and she was led away to a nearby van. As she was escorted, she repeatedly shouted "Police brutality" and demanded to know her rights and the charges.

Later, she was charged with defiant trespass and released.

Since her son's death, the bereaved mother has spoken out repeatedly against the ongoing Iraq conflict. She is active in an anti-war protest group, Military Families Speak Out.

She has reportedly participated in numerous demonstrations, including protests around the Republican National Convention in New York.

She has also reportedly protested outside of Walter Reed Army Hospital, where many wounded troops are treated, Dover Air Force Bas, in Delaware, where troops' remains are returned to the United States.

Neither the Bush campaign nor the Hamilton Police would comment on the incident.

I wonder whow Laura bush would feel if one of her drunken daughter was killed in Iraq???

Still " Four More Years " ...

All these rep rallies are staged and prepared in advance, with people performing for the cameras, praising the president, saying how they pray for him, and all the rest of the horse shit...

So sad to see america on this slope to hell ....

Not in Iraq. The vast majority of servicemen are locked into permanent extended contracts - a back door draft.

Volunteering to defend your country is not the same as volunteering to risk your life so some insignificant middle eastern country can be turned from a dictatorship into an islamic theocracy.

I've been to a couple of those rallies....nobody prepped me for anything. There ARE things that are arrainged of course....just like at ANY politcal rally...Bush, Kerry, or anyone else.

And, BTW....at ANY event where a person is making a speech, political or not, if someone is SCREAMING at the speech maker, and makes it difficult for the speaker or the audiance to hear or continue....that person is removed, it's the same everywhere. Stop trying to make is all so sinister.

You're right. It is.

But I also know that it's who you know, not what you know, that counts. If your Daddy or Mommy or Aunt or Uncle or Granpa, etc. was or is a bigwig, then you're given some preferential treatment. That often leads to assignments that are not, shall we say, as dangerous as others.

Ah, and I'm sure you're going to tell me that I'm full of it, etc.etc.etc. That's to be expected. Flame away.

As the Bush supporters put it in the "little girl with a sign thread".

This is just security. Mom was a security threat. Chanting loud and dragging her ass away difuses that threat.

Kerry has consistantly allowed hecklers to voice their beliefs at rallies. He has on multiple occassions repsonded to their questions. Why is it that Bush fears a townhall style debate? The second presidential debate was slated to be in this format. Bush is scared that real Americans will ask him questions that he won't be able to amswer. Do you remember the press conference where he admitted the U.S. had made mistakes in Iraq? When asked what those mistakes were, Bush stood there like a fool and couldn't fathom a single mistake that he had just admitted.

Does that count for the people who were arrested here recently for wearing "offensive shirts" that read "Anybody but Bush"?

Not ONE of them said a word. Not a thing. I was there. I watched it. They were arrested for "tresspassing" and "vulgar/offensive clothing."

How does one tresspass on a college campus, especially one that they live on?? These were STUDENTS.

Agreed, when yells interrupt a speech, then it's annoying. But explain the silent protest bit to me, please.

Try going to ANY speech....in ANY venue....on ANY subject.....and then start SCREAMING at the person in the middle of making the speech.....

want to guess what will happen?

Please try it. Pick ANY kind of speech you want, and let us know what happens.

Can I have a reality check please?

How does this equate to people in a crowd attacking other people in the crowd for holding up a sign?

naah... but what I will say is... ANYONE with the ability to do would have done all they could to keep their kid out of a war..
especially when it's via draft.

If you have the power to do something, and don't use it... what's the point of having it?

If I were around then... I'd be Canadian... or limping badly.

So someone who had a valid ticket to attend the event and expresses his right to free speech is arrested?

She did nothing but voice her opinion and I think anyone who allows 'jay' shouters at an event has to deal with a 'nay' shouter as well. But I guess the US democracy views are going more and more to hell

Defend a failed policy. The racist regime of Israel have the same policy in place for decades and see where it has led them.

Everytime an American soldier dies the Bush family and the Saudi royal family directly profits through their ownership in the Carlyle Group.

Every time an American questions this war, he/she is branded a traitor or a coward. That mother was willing to be arrested for her beliefs and the love for her child.

An unjust war is an illegal war. Soldiers are not required to follow illegal orders.

She was not arrested for questioning Laura Bush... I love how people always mess with the heading.

She was at a speech screaming and heckling the first lady. Her ass gets warned and kicked out. She goes back outside and starts screaming accusations again...

The incident I'm describing was a recent gathering of some colleges tudents who just don't like Bush. There were about 100 or so of them. None of them said a word, but someone in the Administration building apparently called campus police and had them removed from school grounds, many of them were arrested, and I know of four who spent a night in jail.

Campus police is NOT a well-liked entity now, because even those who didn't agree with the "anybody but bush brigade" didn't think they had done anything wrong. Many of the professors are hopping mad as well.

Stuff like this can easily incite a multitude of vengeance tactics. Someone in the heirarchy of campus is missing a few marbles.

(Hiyas sunshine! I'm feeling better today, but still kinda icky. Went to the infirmary this morning and yes, I had a concussion...possibly will feel effects for a couple of days, the swelling isn't completely gone yet. I'm supposed to be taking it easy. HA!)

I'm sorry, but are you some kind of zombie? What the heck does this dogmatic recitation have to do with my post? Are you actually a thinking person or do you just spout slogans?

hope the son feels that way, bravely fighting for the cause of his country judgment on war in the torn country. but still sad to hear that more than 1,000 lost US lives and still growing by the numbers. for sure, there are hundreds of mother's out there that symphatize and will even follow this mom's journey to spread out his anger

She asked Laura Bush a question and Laura Bush refused to answer.

They are correct.

They say 4 years, but in actuallity it is 8 years.

This has been standard for the armed forces for quite some time.

the extra 4 years, you are inactive reserve. If the situtain is needed, and your 4 are up, you can be backdoored into staying in.

It sucks ass.

Sue Niederer of nearby Hopewell screamed questions at the first lady
I'm going to try saying this one last time, and then I give up

Try going to ANY speech....in ANY venue....on ANY subject.....and then start SCREAMING at the person in the middle of making the speech.....

want to guess what will happen?

Please try it. Pick ANY kind of speech you want, and let us know what happens.

Ammm... There has always been a tradition of heckling at political events through U.S. history. The Bush campaign has decided not to allow an ounce of it for fear of the truth, for fear for an opposite opinion. These are public events. You are allowed to shout out at campaign events. (I have worked on over 20 campaigns both Dem and Rep). Most of the time the speaker will respond as it is the tradition. The Bushes have decided they are too good for the 50% of the Americans that question their policy.

You sign contract with the U.S. Armed Forces when you enlist.

1. It was not a Q&A
2. "Sue Niederer of nearby Hopewell screamed questions at the first lady" sounds more like she was trying to disrupt a speech others came to hear.

Her having a ticket to listen to a speech does not give her the right to disrupt it. That would be the same as me saying that I paid to get into a movie theatre to see "8 Mile," and that gives me the right to bring in my boom box to see it the album Dark Side of the Moon matches it or not. Fuck the other patrons, right?

ummmm....actually, no. This was not some "whistle stop" event. If it was, then I would agree with you. This was a planned and organised speech that had tickets issued. If you start screaming at the speaker at a planned speech, be it politcal, in a high-school auditorium, in a medical convention at a banquet hall, in a VFW meeting, in a church, even at a comedy club....if you start screaming in the middle of the speech, you will be taken out of the place. This is reality, not some sinister plot.

free speech does not give you right to disrupt the rights of others
