Software to corrupt the system only makes it so your software can't be used. The OS could always be reinstalled. I wouldn't want anything that would actually destroy the computer.... what if it accidently went off while it was still in your possession.
The best solution... always keep good backups and insure the damn thing. |

FAST FORWARD TO NEXT WEEK: Is there any way I can get around the password I put on my laptop? Somehow I locked myself out of it.

One of the best ways is to not put it in a laptop bag, those Targus bags SCREAM I HAVE AN EXPENSIVE LAPTOP IN HERE, PLEASE STEAL ME FOR CRACK MONEY!!! Buy a laptop sleeve, its basically the same protection, and you can carry it in your backpack, briefcase, messenger bag, whatever. http://www.sfbags.com/PRODUCTS/SC_INFO/sc.htm http://www.booqbags.com/Search.bok?c...ptop%20Sleeves http://www.ogio.com/products/display...311306&color=1 Get a damn good lock, you want something that the hotel maid, or the crackhead that wants quick cash is going to take one look at and find an eaiser mark. APC by Kryptonite Notebook Computer Vault Lock, Combination Lock With that locked up to the frame of the bed, or around your hotel toilet, the only people that will still want your computer are either very dumb or are very dedicated in trying to steal the information onboard it. Which leads us to the next layer of security, make your laptop worthless to anyone that was stealing it just for the information. PGP Personal Desktop PGP Mail ? Encrypts email, files, and instant messages and also provides the ability to manage PGP keys. PGP Disk ?Transparently creates volumes whose contents are encrypted when not in use. I have a laptop with a PGP formatted hard-drive, after a certain amount of time that its open and I am not doing anything, the drive will unmount and encrypt itself. If my computer is stolen, they will have a laptop with plenty of porn to jerk off to, but I can sleep at night knowing all my organization's intellectual property (business plans, powerpoint presentations, and reports) are secure to just about anyone short of the NSA, GCHQ, DSD, and CSE. If I had a better grasp of what operating system you are running, I could make things a little more secure. Also if you find yourself flying alot, slap some stickers on the top of your computer, or run to Fastsigns and have them make a sticker of your URL, one laptop looks like every other one at the TSA checkpoints, I know this and the laptop thieves know this. (Yes it still goes on with all the security) its a little hard to run off with a laptop that has... www.wildmonkeysex.com across the top of it, sure it might get a few stares, but you might find a few new signups while waiting around at the Admiral's Club. ![]() If you have any other questions, hit me up in ICQ, I've camouflaged a number of laptops for a number or organizations over the years.
