Right screen for design?

I'm about to build myself a new pc. However I'm struggling on wether or not I should go with an LCD display this time around. I have always tried to stick with 17" and 19" CRT monitors on 1024x768 resolution so that I can see things the same way the average surfer does.

Would a 17" LCD display on 1024x768 resolution still reflect accurately enough what surfers see? Would colors still look pretty much the same between both types of screen? What I wouldn't want is design something on LCD and then when I look at it on a CRT it looks bad.. that would be a real pain.

Not really, at that resolution, the images would be blurry and the colors wouldn't be exactly on point in comparison to having the LCD at its native resolution.

17 inch lcd monitor will not work good in 1024x768
better buy 15 inch model

i have 20inch lcd LG L2010p with default resolution 1600x1200
and it works ok (not perfect) in resolution 1024x768
problem is because of interpolation

ok 15" or 17" I don't mind, I don't want a huge display. I currently have a 19" CRT and I don't like it that much. I actually preferred my old 17" monitor to this one. When I bought the 19" back then it was pretty expensive and I ended up not liking it. I'm trying to escape that this time, so switching to LCD would be a big change and you never know how you'll like it until you work with it. Just trying to gather some opinions on such a switch...

How do you guys design running at high resolutions? You run your everyday operations at high rez and switch to 1024x768 when you need to design? Or you design at high rez with page width at 800 max? I guess I'd be able to design being at high rez but I'd rather design using the most common resolution surfers use so I see things as accurately as possible.
