It never really took off. I had bought one years ago, well actually about 6 years ago. Never liked it.

Does anyone still use it? Sounded like a billiant idea.

It's now called MSNTV and apparently Microsoft hasn't quite given up on the set top box idea just yet . Good newb traffic source though

... back in the days when I dominated inforseek.com I sent all my webTV traffic to flashcash (infoseek used to be the default SE for webTV) and got about 60 signups per day out of it. good old times.

That or another version that's not game orientated. But something along the lines of a online entertainment center. Internet access, downloadable movie and music content. Set Top boxes have a lot of potential. Piggybacking on the popularity of gaming isn't a bad idea.

My hacked XBox is probably my most favorite toy. It's amazing what you can do with them.

Nice, it was cheap. You would think every house hold would of had one by now.

I had the idea that every Cable box would have one built in but I guess it would cost too much.

Most cable boxes do...to an extent. So you weren't off in thinking that. They'll be back.

Sony just bought MGM for a reason. They've got similar ideas for the PS2.

That's my view of the future of the internet.. I think the web will eventually take over as the main source of entertainment once the bandwidth limitation limits are solved.

I think you will see the major TV networks playing a huge roll in the future online. I think there will be "super sites" set up like the AOL network which have on line style TV broadcasting mixed with the full function of a basic webpages.

A TV style box would be the prefect solution for something like that..

the problem was it was slow and it had rendering problems, it's browser sucked ass, and you really needed a keyboard to run it, and it became somewhat of a joke.

how many guys would admit in their office they don't have acomputer cause they used WebTv?

a system like that won't replace the computer.. but it would be a big hit with the normal light web browsing people and console gamers

I still have nightmares of my webtv days back in 98 when I first got online.. 6 monthes of that till I built my first pc.. I still see a webtv sign up to my site from time to time..

What they really need to do is combine a T1 with the standard 110 plug so when they power up a house, its in every house, every room and it's done.

Why not have it in addition to the PC? Entire homes networked, everything being some sort of e-ppliance, everything communicating. It's not only a good idea, its coming. If you have enough money its already here.

guess I was on target then... BTW IP are already at the TV's via Digital Boxes.. Companies such as Bright House/ Time Warner already have that set up on their digital boxes and their DVR's each of those boxes is basically a computer and they have IP address.

The cable companies are going to own the internet in the future.
