DOT SEX TLD SCAM-http://dotsex.com/

I got this spam today:
"The latest domain name extension has arrived .SEX!!! It's the fresh ,new,
exciting web address that is taking the world by storm.

Who wants to be .com when you can now be .SEX

Register your .SEX domain name today exclusively at:
http://www.dotsex.com "

I am sure it is a scam. I want to know how they get away with this shit. Are they not afraid of chargebacks? Also how can we shut those fucks down?

technically it's not bogus (yet). The .sex extension hasn't been approved yet. In fact it will go up for "review" in 2002.

from their site FAQ:
"When and how can I use a .sex domain name?
The .sex domain names are currently being registered for activation in 2002. They will initially be viewed on the Internet by making a slight alteration to your web browser."

A slight mod to my browser? Fu_k that! Not too many people are going to want a .sex mod to their browser.

Ewww, you just wait till Gem reads this. I hope she rips into dotsex.

Not really, it's the only resonnable aproach available to get an alternate DNS into the windows users systems without setting up a TLD clash with NSI/Verisign/ICANN.

After everyone and their brothers submission to get .xxx and .sex domains into the TOP TLD failed miserably, what are we left with nothing...

What they are proposing as browser modification, (The DNS plug-in) is the equivalent of what Macromedia does. No Flash, , it's downloads and installs automatically. Something simmilar will be atemted, and it's not very complicated.

How does this works? What is DNS.... IT's the name.TLD associated with the ip of a machine mapped on the net where your website is. The big database is at Internic root. ISP make a copy of it every few days so that the load can be distributed locally, instead of in a single accesspoint point.

Everytime you connect to your isp, a few things is given to you.

An adress is assigned to you so we know where to send information, thats you IP. Also, your computer is being told where your isp copy of the internic database is. When you type gofuckyourself.com, your computer send a query to your isp and ask it to check if there is an address mapped to it. IF so, then the address is returned to you, and your computer then tries to connect to that address.

What the plug-in will do is this. It will tell your computer to check their copy of of DNS first and if no match is found, then to check your isp copy. Thats it.

Now I know some of you never evewn heard of all the transactions that are made just to look up names on the net, but this is how it will work.

Wheter it will gain acceptance into the mainstream, is a gamble yes, but calling it a scam is demonstrating a misunderstanding of the technology.

Good thing we are not in the middle ages, you people would already be burning them alive ...

That is not the point they are trying to make it look like you just register the domain and it works for everyone. Their site is very misleading, other sites that offer .sex TLDs warn people that it's not going to work for everyone!

It is a scam, why, because they do not really believe it will work. If they had serious intentions of getting it synched up with zone files and the like - that is one thing, but they don't. There is no way this will EVER work.
http://www2.domainnamesystems.com/xxx/info.html

It is a scam to make more money off their AVS.

Ok, so explaiin that - two different systems - ALREADY - there may be more. In fact there is.

I am starting one today and will sell you any .sex domain you want for $5.00. Quantity discounts available. I take PayPal.
SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM - and I understand the technology perfectly.

You can't have two people selling the same names - they have 0 authority. I will also let you name your star - and for $10.00 will register it WITH THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS. This is even more a scam then that was.

By the way - I can give you the broswer modification for free. It takes 10 seconds - you too can have your site go to:

sex.sex

Sorry RedShoe! We have read into this in depth and the info we know say that by the time these .xxx or whatever actually come in to use. the browsers will already be ready for them.

Sure it will be some sort of plug-in or addon into the browser software but it won't be changing our browsers as we know them now. Or at least not in a bad way. Worst case scenerio is adults only would be able to access this plugin to add. (according to current plans)

From what we gathered from the multitude of articles etc we have read is this: the current way the world DNS servers internal workings operate only allow for the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx IP configurement. Recently they had to add software to fix the servers to read by actual www addy. All due to the limited format of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx filling up.
Same thing that is happening worldwide with phone numbers. Area codea are having to be overlaid to cover all the idiot kids cells, beepers and those nuts in cars with a phone growing from their heads.

Hopefully the current work they are supposedly doing in some dark and dank batcave will allow the WorldWide Servers to operate on some sort of extended IP numbering system so that plugins or addons will not be needed.

If not.... and MY browser gets changed... I will drag carcasses to you for real Fx photo work RedShoe.

It has nothing to do with your broswer, your browser will already support it - they simply would have to add it to the zone file. If I went in with an armed tommorw It would work on everyones browser in 2 - 3 days.

The modification the would make is local DNS.
Since they are not allowed to do this, they would have to make it look at your computer first and then at their regular ZONE DNS entries + the .sex ones they added.

You can make your own in 10 seconds.

Make a text file called "hosts" no dots or anything, just five letters and put this one line in it:

209.128.107.23 sex.sex

Then save it in your windows directory. Load up your browser and type:

sex.sex

That is all they are doing, except they are having your computer go to their dns files. All browsers allready work with it, the reason it will not work is political, not technical. When you go to directnic to register your dns entries - that is about all that is happening - there is a couple lines in a file. If someone changed .com to .sex - it would work as soon as it was updated.

Contrary to popular belief - there are plenty of IP4s available (219-223/ 240-255.xxx.xxx.xxx) are mainly unused that is about 320,000,000 IPs (Not to mention the US Post Offfice owns 16,777,216 of their own - so does Dupont, Ford, Merk, Eli Lilly, Xerox, IBM, Apple, HP, and even Bolt Beranek and Newman, GE, AT&T - ALL own almost 17 million IPs a piece) Tell me what the fuck does Eli Lilly need with 16 million IPs. But you are right - they are going to IP6.

This will be a big pain as your IP will be written in HEX.

Here's to progress

One more thing, there is nothing that would make the anti porn people MORE happy than to get these addresses. Takes 10 seconds to ban 'em all.

It is like the government requiring phone companies to make their equipment wiretap ready. They don't have to go through much trouble anymore - it used to cost a whole lot of money - it will be much cheaper now.

Same with this - the ultra conservatives will start out with - Oh we are not against porn, we just want it to be on .sex or .xxx. Then the next administration comes in and says "Eh, lets pull the plug on .xxx, or no tax breaks for hosts that host .xxx, or whatever.

I doubt it would happen, but I don't think .sex is a good thing. No reason to make life easier for censorship...

Yes Chris completely knows what he's talking about. It is a scam. How about this. I can even sell my own TLD extension for 15$/piece if I use my own root NS servers..No one would be able to access them though and search engines won't spider them.who wants dot porn?
