Should you be fired for surfing porn

Humpday is apon us again
Did any one catch DateLine last night? http://www.msnbc.com/news/596672.asp

I really don't think it's fair that companies can fire someone for surfing porn.

So true Wizzo... I've worked for a couple AVS's and it's all porn, no non adult sites or your out on your ass.

Anyone feel that viewing too much could be detrimental to our psyche? I've been doing this for over two years now and I try my best not to get fucked in the head about all I see. I'm just interested in what others have to say... is there a thing as too much?

What a stupid thread... you're paid to work, and if that work isn't in the adult industry, that doesn't include porn, or napster, shockwave games, or searching for the perfect kitten picture for your background image.

pr0....I don't think we have the perfect job.

I think that if we see too much perfect porn (I mean perfect models), we will have erections problems....that's why I work with a lot of ugly pics and videos

LOL

surfing is part of the job - even nonporn sites have a little to learn from (though most of them are fuckin shite and seem to be hosted on Mogodon 233's or someshit)

companies should allow free access during tea-breaks and lunchtimes though, without having to look over your shoulder to worry about if your browsing is 'acceptable'

Yes if I caught one of my employees surfing for porn, while they were being paid by me, I would fire them (non porn business)

Likewise if you were paying someone to make posts on all the bbs's promoting your (porn)company and you found them outside sleeping in the grass well past lunch time, undoubtably they would be fired

jeez - that's a bit fuckin harsh! It's a bit easier to just deduct some pay or make them work late. Most of the talented and creative people i know are slackers....

You can't legally deduct pay or force overtime work under US labor laws without the agreement of the employee whom THEN could file against you in the Wage and Hours divisions and force you to pay them back etc.

It's easier to fire them. They'd probably be doing that again anyhow. When you are paid to do a job that does NOT include what the h*ll YOU think it does... just the job as laid out per the employer. Most have that porn thing posted in offices and it's blatent disregard of the rules.

Just like everything else, it completely depends on the situation. There are some instances it probably wouldn't affect anything, if your work's been done...while other times it would be totally unacceptable and in bad taste.

There is no magic line you can draw.

Have a great day,

loster

eurgh - it's perfectly acceptable to get docked or overtime here if you've been caught slacking

I don't see the difference between surfing for porn on the job (when it's not your job) than dog-fucking on any other workplace

Kat, no you cannot dock pay unless the employee says okay. It's done, most of the time, with the knowledge that the other choice is termination.

Then again... I heard that from someone so I can't swear by it.
