Just bought my first Apple computer...

A Powerbook G4. So far it is fucking fantastic. I love OS X. And the quality of the stereo speakers omggggggg

I took the network cable from one of my Windows machines, turned the laptop off, then plugged the cable into the Powerbook. Then I remembered that I needed to transfer some passwords and bookmarks to the Powerbook... so I turned the Windows laptop back on. First thing I see... "Windows has recovered from a serious error".

I've been using Windows XP for years, and I thought it was good - it's only been a few days with OS X, but already I can see myself sticking to Mac in the future. If you haven't ever used a Mac, you should at least check it out. Shit is a little expensive, but not too bad. There is a few things to learn but if you're used to Windows, you should pick them up within a few hours. Safari > Internet Explorer. And Mail > Outlook.

One question for OS X users... how do I minimize all open windows? Windows XP has a "show desktop" button, but I can't find anything like it in OS X.

I agree mac X is great, but what I hate is the software written for it. I mean I'm so used to MS software :-(

If I wanted a PC, I'd use one of the two in my office, or one of the six P4 machines in the warehouse. I find the Mac to be the better machine.

Take it from a nerd: with Alienware, you're paying for the brand and a nice-looking case. You could get the same performance from a computer half the price.

I have a P4 3.4 (clocked to 3.6) Extreme Edition and 2 gigs of RAM and it -owns- with Photoshop and video encoding. It is in fact faster than the dual CPU Mac's with mpeg work.

The new P4 3.6 Prescott CPU's with the new SSE3 instruction set are even much faster than this with multimedia work, and that's at a stock clock.

I got nothing against Apple except the idea that everything is proprietary and difficult to change. I'm the kind of guy who changes CPU's about once a month in an effort to hot rod a little more productivity out of my machine. I view my machine as a chassis rather than a finished box.

In OSX, just hit F11 and all the windows will scoot off the screen, kind of like the "show desktop" feature in Windows.
Hit F9 though, and you'll see the super cool "show ALL windows open" feature, and you just click on the window you want to be up front.
F10 will dimm all the windows behind the one working so you can focus a little better with screen clutter.

Hope those tips help.

I have been using Macs for the last few years. I have the latest G4.

But, I have to say, I agree with these others saying that you are an idiot and should go get a PC. Lots of mornings, I wake up and think, "wow, I wish I could get some of that spyware or even better, a doozy virus....I also wish my Operating system would crash, like in the old days! You know, I think I will restart my Mac right now and pretend I just downloaded a plug in! All those registry files are really a delight, especially the corrupt and deviant ones! I mean, what else should I do with my time now that I am not scanning for them or reinstalling the OS?????"

Ya dude, mac is really good and underused.... Mostly because of the cost margin between a pc and mac. If I ever have extra $$$ to spend I'd get a mac as well.

Congrats on the switch.

Most PC users are afraid of Macs so they attack them whenever the chance comes up.

Fankly we need all you PC users to get all the virii, adware and spyware. Keep using Windows so we can spend more time working and less time removing problems from our computers.

Mac is ok.... if your needs are not demanding.

Be sure to download the OS X patch from Apple. It fixes 15 SERIOUS flaws in the OS.

Other than that... enjoy your worthless piece of shit.

I own 5 pcs, and recently purchased 2 Macs. I had a bit of frustration while getting used to it. But now I LOVE it and will only buy new PCs as needed to ensure that my sites look okay on PCs. Macs are VERY MUCH better. I bad mouthed them for years. How ignorant I was!!

Welcome to a better way of doing things. You won't want to go back. I get annoyed when I'm forced to use my PCs now.

i'm debating getting a powerbook. I used to have an iBook, and it rocked until airport 'security' killed it.

I dont think i'd use it at home, but its one of those things that when you dont have, you need :D
