Don't buy a plasma screen unless you have $$$ to throw away.
        Go with projection DLP...

Ok, you are in luck because I used to work in systems integration and theatre design. What manufacturers have you been looking at and are you looking at DLP or CRT technology? I always used Runco in my designs. You can get a good DLP from then for around 12k. Another manufacturer that has really impressed me is Christie. They ahve a deal with Regal Entertainment Group to provide all their pre movie shows. These things are shooting a full size theatre screen and look awesome. My brother-in-law is a buyer fro Regal and swears they are only like 8k but I figure that has to be the "we're buying tones of these" discount so I would figure 10 to 12 again. Also, what control system are you going to be using? What components? How many subs? What speakers and amps?

Are you thinking about front projection or just a rear projection TV?

I've looked at Mitusbishi and Sony so far. They both were set up with a 10ft screen. I'll look into those models. Thanks

I allready have a sony 50" LCD for my regular viewing. This is for football and entertaining.

Sony is shit and Mitsu outsources their fronts if I remember correct so you arent really even buying a mitsu. Whats you budget for this project because in a quality home theatre you will spend thousnads in just room prep (sound conditioning). For expample, optimizing AC vents for low noise operation, sound dampening, and PROPER placement of absortive and diffusive materials. Also, you need 2 subs so you can tune your sub nodes. This gets into sound theroy but depending on the deminsions of your room, it can play a huge role in how you bass sounds. Are you working with an integrator? If not, I still do consulting work or I could probably refer you to a few reputable firms in your area.

lol, that site lists $3500 and up projectors as high end. Thats a joke. The hard thing is you ahve to go off what others think is good and if you arent talking to someone who knows what good is, they may think a 25" phillips magnavox is the shit.

Oh, and by the way, high end is a dual stack runco VX-3 at 69,999 ea (yes, thats 140 grand in JUST projectors). By the time we finished that one, it was just a tic over 500k in the theatre.

They've got a section for 20K and up too. I think they are just trying to keep the discussions about the $1,500 LCD projectors you get at Best Buy out of the legitimate home theater projector discussion sections.

I'm sure there's lots of people that buy those things that are meant for board room presentations and think they have a kick ass home theater setup.

What ever you buy, make sure to calculate the throw distance andc rate to make sure your projector will work in your room.

I have this Sony and it is awesome. It's my third and best projector. And less than 3K.

                                  Thanks everyone for the tips.

My budget on a media room is still be determined. The addition I am doing right now on the house isn't close to being finished yet.20k complete would be on the highside of what i am interested in doing.I'm not in the league where people would spend 1/2 mil on a theater. I prefer spending that on my cars
