Tell me about 2257 and my sites

    OK,

So every day there are more and more 2257 posts. I'm from Australia, I don't completely understand what is required to comply... this is either to my ignorance or lazyness.

Basically what I want to know is, will I, being in Australia, be affected by the 2257 law. 1 of my servers is in the states. The other is in sweden.
    I dont need a sig.

            OK! :-)

You have a server in the US, therefore you would be subject to the laws of the US, such as 2257 and any other law someone cares to throw up.

Personally, I'd get the fuck out of the place if it's only one server there - ain't worth the trouble. Also keep in mind that stuff like any third party processing where the processing company is in the US - they will have their own conditions..

Then you are clear to do whatever you like in respect of laws relating to "model age" etc. You just need to observe the laws on the countries where your servers are - and of course, your own countries laws :-)

OK...Now I know we have been fucking around in some other threads but I get the feeling that you are trying to be serious in this one.

If you are....You are dead wrong.

                Na.. was actually serious!

Tell more where you think 2257 has any relationship with servers in another country and the domain owner/operator is not a US resident?

I don't get it. You said:

"You have a server in the US, therefore you would be subject to the laws of the US"

That's incorrect. There's no question about it.

                    AH!! :-)

Sorry... I always gave benefit on the doubt on this one and adopted the attitude that "you comply with the laws of the countries in which you operate or reside".

Also based on the fact that if you have a server in X country - if some "enforement" wants to act on that - they will. It's their country and subject to their laws.

What is the postion on that in the US?

What exactly do you think the US Government can do to a guy in batswannavilleland for a 2257 violation?

                          Absolutely nothing!

They guy in batswannavilleland is personally not subject to the laws of the US.

Batswannavilleland is also not concerned with stuff like 2257 in the US. They may have "their version" tho.

The most the US could do is mess with his US server/close it down.

I see where you are going :-) But just trying to be "nice" to the host country of the server

                            OK! :-)

Will change that "advice" - that cost nothing and is therefore worth nothing, to:

"You should at least make a feeble effort to comply with the laws of the country in which you operate - but make extra effort to comply with the laws of the country in which you reside" :-)

Still prefer the first version - hell, even outta respect for some "standards" in the country hosting servers.
