anyone with a new dell laptop?

its time for me to get a new laptop
    right now i have a inspiron 7000 (p2 400 256megs of ram 10 gig) not exactly a technomachine

anyways, the dell laptop create so much heat, i roast smores on it in the winter. i was wondering if the new ones still have the same problem.

i might get the sony laptop. i like the dual battery setup with the dvd in a non removable drive. im sure the firewire port would come in handy too

anyways, does the dell still roast?

I have a Dell Latitude C600 and it really doesn't generate that much heat. Not as much as the older CPi and CPx series did. Mine is a 750MHz with 265 RAM and it screams. I use it as my primary computer, and it pretty much runs 24/7. No complaints about it at all.

Get the Sony.. The dual battery shit is great.. They also have a long last 3 hour battery, and when you use two of em, your laptop can go 5 plus hours of useage on batery power alone.

      Very nice.

I have a dell laptop. As I remember like 1 or 2 months ago I got a recall on the battery that they provided. There is something all fucked up with those batterys. Just call and ask them about it, I am sure they will exchange it for free.

I am a lagger so I havent done it yet. It is on my to do list though.

I have a Dell Latitude CPi as my secondary computer, and it really does get unpleasant to hold it in any way while it's working. But it works ok, so that's fine with me...

Is it really that hot? where is all the heat coming from? the processor? Maybe ask Dell if you can return it if it's getting too warm. Maybe Sony has a nice machine but it's still a Sony... When I think of Sony I think cheap gadgets -- and that's what I think of their laptops. When I look at laptops -- for me craftmanship is very important. I don't care how many batteries or features it has -- if you're using cheap, flimsy materials -- there's no way I'll buy it.

I really trust Dell -- the machine I bought from them in '94 lasted me years without a single glitch... That 100mhz machine still seems faster than this piece of shit Compaq I have now... But seriously think about it -- they sell Sony laptops probably at Walmart now... I think Dell designs for the real computer enthusiasts -- the true die-hard techs...

For example you'll never find a fucking miniaturized backspace key on a Dell machine. That's just one of the ways that you know you're using a real machine and not a toy. If Dell ever makes a laptop w/ a miniature backspace key they can go fuck themselves for making me look like an idiot on the GFY board ehehe... Well that's not to difficult eh?

the battery is under where your palm/wrist is and it gets hot...hot enough where i cut out parts from a mousepad to cover the wrist areas...hehe

i cant even put the laptop on my lap...its roasts my legs even through jeans...i think its sony time

I've been using a Sony Z505HSK for over a year now and I love it. The screen blew away anything else I saw at the time BUT The Fly might have a point regarding flimsy.

The latch broke off this fucker about a month ago, and there's no easy way to replace it. Sony won't sell me the part, since I have to take apart the screen to do the surgery. So now, when I close the lid, it won't shut off the screen or go into suspend mode depending on how I have it programmed. That's kind of a bitch on the battery life.

All in all, though, I'd buy another Sony. It's never given me any trouble at all.
