Poll: Bush Leads by 11 Points

    http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...ll_3&printer=1

WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) leads Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites), 52 percent to 41 percent, while independent Ralph Nader (news - web sites) got 3 percent in a national poll taken during the Republican National Convention that ended Thursday.

The Time magazine poll of 926 likely voters was taken Aug. 31-Sept 2, during the convention and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Bush had 46 percent, Kerry had 44 percent and Nader 5 percent in a Time poll taken just before the convention.

Veteran pollsters say that polls taken during convention weeks should be viewed with caution because they are conducted at a point when public opinion is focused on only one party and a bounce in the numbers could be short-lived.

However, they also noted that polls taken during conventions can sometimes foreshadow a longer lasting bounce. Much of the poll was taken before President Bush's speech on Thursday night.

Bush leads Kerry in areas like handling terrorism, handling Iraq (news - web sites), and providing strong leadership. Bush and Kerry were about even on handling the economy, an improvement for Bush compared with other recent polls.

Kerry campaign aides questioned the size of the Bush lead and pointed to other national polls taken in recent days that show the race is close.

Bush campaign officials were not immediately available to comment.

                same here...

...every Republican I know that voted for Bush last time is NOT voting for him this time...

only about a half dozen people, but they all told me they know more holding the same views...

I watched the convetion to see if Bush could win back some votes, and his fear sales didn't work on me and I doubt it worked on those that I mentioned...

polls are worthless in this election. If you polled people in california bush is getting his ass handed to him. If you polled people in texas kerry is getted destroyed. Remeber in the last election gore got 2million more votes than bush and lost. Polls are pretty much useless, especially when they come on the eve of a convention. In 3 weeks the networks will have thier new fall shows out and everyone will go back to watching TV and forget all about the convention and the polls will reflect that. What matters is individual polls in states that are battleground states not a nationwide poll.

It's possible in this election for Kerry and Bush to each get 269 electoral votes. That means the Senate decides who is president, and the House decides who is VP.

Bush - Edwards, thats the ticket in case of a tie, lmfao!!

You've read it, you can't unread it.

Polls during and immediately after ( within a week ) of EITHER convention are meaningless.. It's called a convention bump, that's all.. Give it a week or two, and numbers will come back down to earth..

Bush may still be ahead, but the numbers will come down...

I'll admit I don't understand statistics, but I don't understand how a poll with a sample size of only 1001 people can show a margin of error of 3% when you are talking about the entire country.

                                Exactly.

You need to ask yourself -- Who owns Time Magazine and who do you think they want to win?

Where are the polls taking place?... they say "National" but are they intentionally polling upper-middle to upper class individuals?

Polls are BS... they manipulate them and throw them out there to try to hook the undecided by saying "Look who's in the lead! You don't want to vote for a loser do ya? Vote Bush & vote for a winner!"

Trusting in the accuracy of a political poll conducted by AOL/Time Warner is about as intelligent as letting a guy who said "We're going to give Ohio to Bush" the authority to control the lionshare of the electronic voting machines across the country.

                                - Which btw, they get smacked down in Ohio last I heard - no electronic voting machines will be used there.

Someone in my family yesterday told me about these polls... basically they said....

(She is a closet bush supporter)

                                  Her:
"Looks like Bush is going to win again... they just said he's up in the polls by 10 points. He really shouldn't have talked so much about Vietnam - that's what killed him

now... knowing that this person is near-addicted to FoxNews and couldn't have an independent logical thought if her life depended on it.... I had to ask....

                                  Me:
                                  "Who is they? Fox?

                                  Her:
"(smile).. umm yeah, but it's a POLL goBigtime... you can't fake A POLL

                                  Me:
"I'm pretty sure we're not really related. You also mentioned that he 'talked to much about Vietnam?.. that is your opinion? Or did Fox drill that into your head as well?"

                                  Her:
"Well... it's my idea, but they agreed with me too."

                                  Me:
"So when someone is slinging shit at you all day long about your service record - you're not supposed to defend yourself?"

                                  Her:
"Bush has a nice nose and good hair. "

                                  Me:
"I hope you are as resistant to nuclear fallout as you are truth and logic... because other countries out there are only going to put up with this shit for so long.
