    Uh oh, here it comes...

Well after being back in the sniffly cold Vancouver weather for a few days, the chill has finally caught up with me. I can feel it in my bones. Ugh.

Anybody know a good recipie for chicken soup?

    *sniffle*

If I wanted it fast, I would have heated up the Lipton instant soup crap that's already in my cupboard.

Yeah. Pop over to superstore and grab a box of lipton... add hot water and eat.

Get some sudafed and cinnamon tiger balm, and a helpful person to apply it. I'd offer, but I'm around 6000km away at the moment.

                        3 to 3 1/2 lbs. chicken

                        1 onion cut in half

                        2 celery ribs chunked

2 carrots cut in 3 inch pieces

Place the chicken in a 5-6 qt. pan and cover with water. Add vegetables. Cook about 30 minutes over medium heat until chicken is done. Remove chicken from pot and cool chicken. When chicken can be handled take the meat from the bones and add bones back to pot and cook 1/2 more over medium heat. Chill chicken pieces.

                        Prepare:

                        2 celery ribs diced

                        3 carrots diced

Dice the chicken into bite size pieces.

Strain stock and return to pan. Add 2 cups of water, chicken and prepared vegetables. Cook another 20-25 minutes until vegetables are cooked. Add 4 ounces noodles to the soup and cook 10 minutes. Taste and adjust for salt and pepper.

ok- I made jewish chicken soup no recipe but here is what you would need. chicken pieces dark meat mostly. dill, celery carrots(not to many or it will make it too sweet) onion parsnit salt and pepper. Sometimes you can buy the veg all in one little bag fresh. It may even be called soup starter. if that is the case you will need some extra dill and and a few more carrots.

                                    Elli,

Oh nooooo....colds are no good. The chill's already started here in Montreal -- I've been cold all night.

CyberBachelor's soup recipe seems nice and simple Go with that at make sure you start with the eccinacea and zinc.

                                    Feel better, hon... *hugs*

Thanks chickie yeah the house is 69F tonight, which is darn cold after a week in Tucson. I think the plane trips didn't help much, either.

Lipton would definitely work, i wouldn't know anything about your kind of cold environment.

                                          1 whole chicken quartered.
3 whole carrots (snaped in big pieces)
2 stalks celery (snaped in big pieces)
1 large onion (unpeeled and quartered)
3 cloves garlic (leave peeled just crush em some)
Handfull of fresh parsely (leave out if you only have dry)
1-2 branches rosemary (stalk and all) 1/2 tsp if dry.
1 bunch thyme (stalk and all) 1 tsp if dry.
                                          4-5 peppercorns
                                          1 tbls kosher salt

Toss everything into pressure cooker and cover with water, not going past pressure cooker fill line (2-3 inches from top). Use Cold water.

Bring to simmer, scrape of scum that forms. Add pressure cooker lid, bring to full pressure and then reduce heat to minimal. Cook 30 minutes at full pressure.

Get big pot or bowl with colinder. carefully pour everything into pot of bowl reserving all liquid. Discard all veggies and sticks, let chicken cool slightly.

Use liquid to add diced potato, carrot, celery, and onion to. Bring to simmer over medium low heat. Add noodles if desired when veggies are almost fork tender, cook until noodles are done.

While above simmers shread chicken. Add some to your liquid above when noodles are done or 1 min from done.

Just saw you do not have pressure cooker. Just use large pot instead, still start with cold water. Bring to simmer and keep it there removing scum as needed. May need to replenish water some. Cook 1-2 hours at simmer.

I love Lipton Supreme. Break up and throw in some spaghetti for some extra "noodles"...

Run out and get yourself some medicine and "comfort" food before you get completely sick.

The sodium levels in most store bought soups is insane. It actually can make you worse. You need liquid and do not need the salt sucking it from you or your body pulling OT to process it.
