SSL certificates are they worth having on your site?

Can anyone advise ???

I set up a online store ,the payment section is already protected at moment of transmission of c/c data via my bank gateway, but I
purchased and set up a SSL certificate for it too,
Do you use a SSL certificate ? are they worth it ?? as pop up boxes appear to tell the surfer different info ??does this scare them ???

thanks

Why are pop-up boxes poping on your cert? Shouldn't be any pop-ups, unless it is the Windows security alert.

But in answer to your question, whenever dealing with customer info, an SSL secured area is essential. People look for the security lock on their browser, and if they don't see it, they won't buy.

I have them on my commerce sites. Nothing popups up unless you click on the icon for the cert, and then it just tells you who I am, where I'm located, etc.

I paid less than $200 for it and it's well worth it.

The cert is one of the biggest hussles I have ever dealt with. You may get some orders without it but honestly most people are going to pass you up if they do get a security alert saying you are not secure. It is like having a business license for the internet really, it is a peice of paper that says "hey they are safe" but in all actuality it does not mean anything. Necessary evil.....
