Tech support! USB mouse, Win2k server: Cursor freezing over and over

I have to unplug my USB mouse and plug it back in to unfreeze it. Reinstalling the driver does the same thing, but I can't fix it permanently.

I've googled the problem with no luck. Can anyone help me with this?

Believe it or not there are a few viruses out there that har having similar effects on computers.

Scan your shit and see what comes up.. Run norton or what ever, then go to this address and run theirs. It is web based. Quick downlaod and then it will scan.

I ran AVG and nothing came up. I'll try the trendmicro link.

Make and model of server? Amount of RAM? When did the problem start? On install of mouse or later.

Worse comes to worse - soft rebuild

Or move to PS/2 mouse

No, but I don't understand them anyway... I just now looked at them. I'll look again next time it happens and try to see what the error is...

Most USB mice come with an adapter for PS/2. Have a look for it or pick a new one up at a store.

Have you tried the microsoft generic mouse driver or changing the mouse refresh rate?

Actually, forget all that.. Just plug another mouse in and see what happens :P I go through a mouse every 8 to 14 months and that's the best way to check if it's a hardware problem.

In the event logs - just look back in time. Scroll down and look for RED. Then click on that message. sometimes they are in English and you can click on link that takes you someplace on the microsoftsite that may have a real answer (about 1 in 10).

You should look under system and the under application on the event viewer.

Good luck! If all else fales throw the fucking mouse at the wall and buy a new one. If that doesn't fix it, somethings wrong with the PC. At this point, you are cleared to rant on GFY.

I found that and tried it. There was nothing showing up for the times when I had trouble with the mouse...

Trying this option next.

That's if I can't find a working ps2 mouse around the house. The kids keep taking the balls out of them to play marbles with or something.

MEMO

Re: Replacement of Mouse Balls.

If a mouse fails to operate or should it perform erratically, it may need a ball replacement. Mouse balls are now available as FRU (Field Replacement Units). Because of the delicate nature of this procedure, replacement of mouse balls should only be attempted by properly trained personnel.

Before proceeding, determine the type of mouse balls by examining the underside of the mouse. Domestic balls will be larger and harder than foreign balls. Ball removal procedures differ depending upon the manufacturer of the mouse. Foreign balls can be replaced using the pop off method. Domestic balls are replaced by using the twist off method. Mouse balls are not usually static sensitive. However, excessive handling can result in sudden discharge. Upon completion of ball replacement, the mouse may be used immediately.

It is recommended that each person have a pair of spare balls for maintaining optimum customer satisfaction. Any customer missing his balls should contact the local personnel in charge of removing and replacing these necessary items.

Please keep in mind that a customer without properly working balls is an unhappy customer.

Is it a Logitech mouse? When I upgraded to XP I had problems with 2 different Logitech ones. I think it's a scam by Microsoft to sell peripherals, but buying a Microsoft mouse solved the problem
