Anybody interested in co-op web hosting

Hey, if we got like 20 of us together or something, we could probably get some kick ass prices on servers and bandwith and stuff.

Anybody ever tried this?

What kind of rates were you looking for? And how much bandwidth used...

I may have something available for you...

Even if not, let me know what you're paying now and I can see what I could do for you..

you can get 1$/gig easily from a dedicated server if you purchase at least a mbit line. you dont need 20 people for that.

if you purchase SHITLOAD of bandwidth, than it would be maybe 80c/gig , not a HUGE difference

You and I must be thinking the same thought I've found a great opportunity for bandwidth, but I need a few people to come in on it with me. I have 10 slots open for anyone that is interested. The deal includes a 1U rack spot, you provide your own hardware, or we can build one out for you to spec. You get a 5Mb/sec line which can do around 1200Gb a month of traffic, 5Mb/s can do like 1620GB full bore, but with the lull at night you should be able to get around 1200GB with no trouble. The price is $700 per month (that's less than 60 cents per GB). The boxes will be housed in Dallas at a tier 1 level co-location facility, with diesel & battery backup, fire suppression and 24/7 guard & tech on hand.

So if you are interested please email me at [email protected]

I'm hoping to get everyone ready so we can be going the end of July. Thanks.

I'm looking for 10 people that want to put in $700 a month each. You then get your own slot to put your own dedicated box, and get 1200 GB of traffic. Just what those hungry TGP sites need

See...now that sucks..no offense to you..but, it's not where I was going with this.

Most peeps still doing tgp galleries can't afford a wham! $700 buck traffic bill right off the bat..that's like, a whole week or two of work...hell, for some, it's the whole month's payout!!!!

I want to get like 10 folks to split ONE of those...*lol*, or maybe two.

that way, it's affordable, and lots of bandwith and stuff...

I mean, ten peeps, $150 each a month..should get us some largeness to use and abuse?

The way I'm looking at it right now, my host is great, honest, hardworking...but I'm being killed by bandwith bills. If I had more money to spread out ...I could get a better deal... and not be afraid to use TGSW or anything...see what I mean!

That would be fine, I just figured most people would want their own box If you want to get 4 or 5 people together to spit one box that's great

How about this. I'll put together a dual 1Ghz box with 160Gb of drive space and 2 GB ram. Setup cost for each person would be $250 to pay for the hardware, and then a slot on the box would be $150 per person for 4GB of drive space, and 250GB of traffic each month ?? It would have full email, stats, and unlimited domains per user. I would stipulate that there would be no cgi-bin since it is a shared box that is going to mostly be for tgp submissions, that way you have no problem with the load level on the box being effected by any one person What do you think ???

That is just about perfect...

but no cgi???

damn ...that could be a deal breaker..

gotta have ssi, perl and stuff..

fancy webmaster tricks and all that!

what if I want to use it for a pay site or something..

no, gotta have more flexibility..

I know what you're saying..server load..one circle jerk like Dr. Dre's and the whole thing slows to a crawl...

but, still...I think I would go nuts not having perl on any box.

The rest of it sounds beautiful!

and dre, ya bum 7 gigs a day.!!! you are a bad ass traffic man! *lol*

That Hun guy and world sex are no slouches either...I must say!

I would say if you want perl and all the bells and whistles, then get your own box at $700. If your running a paysite you don't want to be on with a bunch of tgp stuff anyway. I don't know of anyone offering traffic at 60 cents per GB or below. So on a shared box I'd say no CGI just to keep it nice and fast for everyone.

A tier 1 level co-location facility will not charge you $700 for a 5mbit dedicated line. I don?t know where this facility gets their bandwidth but at $140/mbit it can?t be any good. Check out cogent co you can get bandwidth for $10/mbit but I would not want to host my stuff there. We at isprime only use Verio and Level3 for our connectivity. And remember you get what you pay for.

It is cogent that is the provider, they don't do the 100Mb/sec for wholesale @ $1000, that price is only for retail customers. The colo will be in colo.com in Dallas, which is a tier 1 slot. And for my money, $140 Mb/sec is just fine for my TGP stuff. I wouldn't probably run a paysite off of it, but from my talks with colo.com regional manager, the cogent stuff has been solid ever since they went into Dallas 6 months ago! And since colo.com is carrier neutral you can add anyone else that you want to to supplement the traffic. So I'm willing to give it a try at that price. Unless of course you can offer something better

i can offer you 2500gig for $2500 and free server.. and if you can purchse more bandwidth we'll throw in extra servers so u definatly wont have to worry about 1 server taking all the heat

our bandwidth are at exodus
we got a 4gigabit link and only using no more than 2gig worth of it.

I went to isprime's website, and they didn't even have a 24/7 support number on their website. What if your site goes down in the middle of the night? Who are you going to TALK to?

I don't know why everyone wants a fast connection. I hate fast connections. The faster your pipe the easier it is for hackers to hit you a billion times per second. I don't need that shit, I keep my servers on a dialup connection.
