Does anyone know when the ps3 is going to be released?

I'm making my Christmas list and I really don't have any good ideas for my wife. A ps3 under the tree would rock!

I have an XBox now - I like it and all, but ever since I bought it, I wished that I had purchased a ps2.

I don't really play a lot of games, but when I play, I like to play with other people - online or at home - and the ps2 always seemed better. I'm expecting more of the same from the ps3.
