My pc crashes when I use premiere, do I need a new video card?

I got 512 megs of memory and a pentium 4 processor and tong of hd space. but when i use premiere it crashes often.

will a new video card fix this? I dont know what I have for a video card but it came with the system so it probably sucks

could be alot of things... id say your MB, not enough HD space, it's prolly not your video card... try messing with the config in premiere.

512 ram in my opinion is not enough to run the OS and Premiere. Premiere is a huge memory hog. Photoshop alone has trouble running big applications on 512 with XP. Now take that same 512 mb ram and run a 4 Gig AVI file through that shit. Not going to work. Just a thought. Probably need 2 gigs of ram but I dont know how big your files are that your working with. Just a thought anyways.

It could be a hell of a lot of things, but for starters make sure you use a dedicated scratch disk, that it's HUGE and fast, and defrag it regularly.

Not really, depends on how your system is configured....I made a 30-minute movie (720X540) on a pre-pentium system with 128 MB of ram, running Win2K. Took a couple of days to render though

If your install of Premiere is OK it's most likely a codec or plugin problem. Are you working with mpeg or mpeg2?
