Oh, another "Bush sucks" thread. There has yet to be a president in my lifetime that didn't suck. As a matter of fact, there are only two presidents in the history of America that didn't suck; George Washington and James Garfield.

1. Neither wanted to be president, which made them worthy of being president.

2. Neither of them did a damn thing. George treated the position as strictly figure head and he did almost nothing. James died before he could do anything, but that still counts.

Those who are voting for Kerry rarely even know his stance on issues - they are merely voting "Not Bush" on the ballot with absolutely zero understanding of Kerry's prior stances and voting records.

But the fact of the matter is, the fault for that lies with the way the system is set up. We have two real parties... be honest, no one else stands a fucking chance in hell. So, it's become clear that in this election, a vote for Nader is nearly as good as another vote for Bush. So, if you don't like the way Bush is running the country, and want to contribute and use your right to vote...what other option do you have than to support the guy who got the Democratic nomination?

However... don't be ignorant - there's idiots on both sides. Go ask someone in a trailer in Alabama to tell you about Bush's foreign policy aside from blowing shit up. Is that an unfair generalization? Maybe... but you get my point.

The entire concept of the EC negates the belief that "every vote counts". Say there's 5 million people voting in a state (I live in PA and in the last presidental election, we had close to 5 million voters). Now, if candidate A gets 2.5 million votes... he basically wins the state automatically, since there's no way the other guy could get more than half the votes (unless there's no third party votes and they tie...which will happen the day after hell freezes over). Now, if candidate A got 3.5 million votes and won in a landslide... a million of his supporters could've stayed home... their votes meant absolutely nothing. Candidate A still won the state regardless. :2 cents:

At first it was put into place because there was little media... so it was hard for regular people to know much of anything about the people running for office.
I'm not sure why it's still in place... maybe because the media is now large, but fucking warped.
