you normally sound like a nice guy but you better hope you are right becaue if my mother died and I just used some place to vent and someone posted a thread they knew would involve poking fun at her death I would be changing my views on acts of senseless violence.

Damn. That's wrong at so many different levels.

One of my clients lost his 18 year old son last Saturday in a motorcycle accident. He died on Saturday and his funeral was on Monday at 6pm. I'd say that was pretty damn fast. :2 cents:

Did your friend go out on Friday nights? Was he at the Synagogue by sundown & walked to & from it? Did he stay home with after the Synangogue with his family by candlelight, no tv, no stove & such until Saturday sundown?

Depends how religious they are - I know that the ones I've known to be religious - the ones that practice the faith, not the Fashion Jewish folk that use it to open the business doors - have to be buried with a day.

The funerals celebrated nowadays is just another social business - before there were full-service funerals, embalmings, visitation & after-mass lunch - people were buried before the decompostion stench would become unbearable.

Then your friend was not buried in the traditional Jewish manner. When a Jewish person dies, they are not left alone until they are buried. Traditionally burial takes place within 24 hours of death (they are NOT embalmed). 48 hours is allowed if there are relatives etc. that live far away and need the time to get there..or if it is the Sabbath. After the funeral (they are not allowed to be displayed during the funeral) Shiva takes place which is a 7 day mourning period.

First of all, I am VERY sorry for the loss of your mom. Stay strong, and remember the good times. ALWAYS REMEMBER that your mom would want you to be happy and not to sit in misery. (As a mom, trust me on that) Grieve, but don't let it take over your life, or let you make rash decisions.
