"Sig placement posts" - do you think people look at sigs actually?

I notice this silly trend lately where posts are being only for 2 reasons:

a) sig placement

b) incrase of sig count

I also notice people with 200k or more sig previews that have 0 clicks according to their "sig click counter".

C'mon people, do you think that anyone looks at the sigs anymore? Or do you think you gain respect if you have 10k+ posts? Hah! Or the idea of selling your sig...does it worth spending 5 hours a day here making 200 posts per day in order to get $200-$500 per month for posting smilies and one liners?

I for one, don't recall of being helped in the past by people with over 5k or 10k posts, I only get BS or useless crap and thread shitting, there are honest exceptions though.

Get the head out of your ass, don't ruin this board.

the only sigs that count are the ones that are in reputable people's sigs.

unless you're trying to harvest n00bs, then the amount of times a sig is seen actually counts

SIG TOO SMALL! Maximum 1200x600 button and no more than 30 text lines of ALL SIZES and COLORS. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 6240x4800 instead of a 1024x800.

the CTR may be very low on sigs, but i think of them more as billboards...

when you see a McDonald's billboard on the side of the highway, you probably don't pull off at the next exit to hunt for one... but the next time you are on a main strip and there is a fast-food choice, marketing experts have reason to believe you may be more likely to go to McDonald's if you recently saw one of their ads

same thing for affiliate programs... when looking for a fresh sponsor to try one day, you may suddenly remember seeing a particular banner on here and manually type in the URL to check them out

to me, it's the same thing

Sig placement posts are very lame and no1 does them anymore anyways ... except couple guys arround ...

CTR on most sig is kinda low ... and some people just boost it artificially ...

I do look at sigs and feel like looking at all the lumps of coal are worth it when you find the diamond that fits something you are doing. I'm able to "tune out" a sig after the first few times of seeing it but sometimes they actually help me navigate a thread or find where I left off. I read pretty fast and it's easy for me to blow through "sigwhore posts". If any one person was annoying enough to me that I would post about it on the board I would put them on ignore. I'm sure some find my slapsticky sense of humor annoying and they should have me on ignore

I think it's worse when someone calls a blatant sigwhore out in the middle of a productive thread because those who have them on ignore are subjected to the replies. If you want to call them out on it why not give them their own special thread

BTW, most posts saying "sig placement" near the top of a thread that is obviously going to be hot are simply punchlines of a running joke, you know, a "be the first one to say it" kind of thing. It is not that they want their banner at the top of a popular thread or anything

i think it depends on the quality of the topic
for example someone with a biz post will get more quality viewers than a post your crotch rocket thread.

it also depends on the sig owner and the sig product itself
