I wish postcount would mean something these days. I see people registered in may 2004 and have 10k posts (not really, but close). :)

Of course post count has no relation to business ability, but it does have a direct correlation to familiarity. I've seen a lot of business done over drinks and loud music, and a lot more business done because someone reckognizes someone else. That's the way of the world and that transfers onto internet message boards as post counts.

I'm no different, I'm diliberatley trying to get my post count up so that the next time I meet everyone they'll already know me. I have no doubt that will make business a lot easier. If nothing else, it gets introductory small talk out of the way, which is conversation hell to me.

I know EXACTLY what you're saying ice

quite frankly I'm also disgusted...

NoCarrier 08-28-2004 04:19 AM

Well, life is hard. It's all about perceptions. Even guys with suit can be poor losers. You change your point of view as you get older. But the fact remains that the postcount is viewed as something important. You can't change that "perception". :glugglug

i tend to agree. taking it a step further, i think high post counts means that someone was just not that busy and had a tremendous amount of time on their hands to post on the boards.

I can understand why high count posters get more attention though. Keep in mind that this is all coming from a "noob".

1. They've been around longer and doing business with someone you already know is easier and even preferable to doing business with a stranger.

2. I'm sure that lots of people with low post counts show up, spam and leave. I haven't been posting long, but I've seen a few examples of it already.

Its because noobs = BAD

Do you really want to help your clueless competition?

I think more than hypocrisy, people just don't want to help people, especially newbies who post on here and want everyones formula to success.

Its not a personal thing. I won't help my close IRL friends into this industry either. Sorry, get your own damn business this one is mine.

It's funny how someone with a large post count can ask for proxies, bp hosting, or email lists, etc, etc, etc and everyone will do what they can to help.

But if someone with a low post count asked about bp hosting or proxies... he would get flamed for being a spammer.

If you combine legit business with grey area business it's fine, I'd never flame anybody for spam beside guys who:

-sell cracked bulkmailing software for 10% of the price (guys who did shit into your brain?)

-don't have a clue what they are talking about, mostly low postcount people who heard about being able to make the big bucks with spam and come here for buying lists or whatever

High posts counts often means respect but not that the person has a clue about anything.

Agreed, some of those with highest post counts have the less to say. Including me.
