Just got back from watching "Hero"

This is the first movie I have ever gone to where I seen people walk out part way through in disgust.

I thought it was great, like a work of art. Incredible story and beautiful fight scenes. But as soon as everyone else in the theater realized it was subtitled, the shit hit the fan. I guess my fellow Canadians are too lazy to read.

Will be interesting to see what kind of money this movie makes.

Anyone else catch it?

i brought back a DVD of hero earlier this year from Hong Kong (it was released over a year ago in China) and was seriously impressed w/ the entire production. the story of the staggered assasin is a very old chinese folktale and it was very cool to see it made flesh so well. highly recommended, but as noted above, don't go if you cant read..!

Honestly those movies are for a specific crowd and not for the general public. I am glad to see grind house/hong kong action is coming back to the theatres, miss things like Kung Fu theatre from when I was a kid. These young ones don't know the struggle, I see them walking around with these T's and hats with stuff that came out before they were ever born. Most of them can not even sit still or have the ability to keep up with sub titles haha. I actually saw this one a while ago, having connections in Asia I get to see a few things well before they get here. I may go see this tomorrow.

People anymore have no culture at all. If it is not presented in the easiest possible way they dont want to fuck with it. I bet it will do pretty well though, because there are a lot of QT lovers and looking at other movies like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon

people not liking a movie because of subtitles? god damn that is fucking sad. i remember when i saw crouching tiger hidden dragon some woman in front of use at the end said " boy those subtitles! after awhile i just sat back and listened! ahah!" needless to say i was disgusted and me and my friends made jokes about her upon leaving the theatre. what makes it even worse is that my friends and i were all high schoolers this lady was in her 40s or something. what the fuck.

by the way its also kinda sad they put tarantinos name on the movie this movie has been out for like 3 years overseas tarantino really has nothing to do with it. if you have a really good video store in your city you can rent it.

Ha.. sounds like my mother. She told me Kill Bill part 1 sucked because of all the reading.

I don't mind subtitles.. I prefer them to shitty voiceovers.

tarantino plastered his name all over Iron Monkey too, always seemed kinda crass to me, this habit of "presenting" movies..

Sorry, I guess that wasn't clear. They were all too fucking lazy to read. There was actually people moaning when the subtitles appeared on the screen. Also, there was a lot of fight scenes where they were kinda flying around like in Crouching Tiger. Instead of people enjoying the scenes, most of them were laughing at them. Kinda ruined the experience for me.

If you like old Kung Fu flicks, or if you liked Crouching Tiger, you will definately like this film.

Yesss! I glad they didn't dub it. It would ruin the movie.

The people who walked out, missed out.

Crouching tiger was BORING from beginning to when I finally gave up on it and shut it off.

Hero looks better.

No problem reading subtitles... half the time i'll turn on the CC on movies cause moviemakers are fucking morons and seem to insist on having people whispering or getting thier voices drowned out in a bunch of totally unnecessaqry background nonsense for at least 99% of every fucking movie I've seen lately.

Just like watching Japanese anime, I never mind reading subtitles. It's good for your brain to read fast and keep with the movie

Don't give him too much credit, all he did was buy the rights and promote it in America.

When they release the American version on dvd, I hope they have two versions. A dubed one for viewers who don't mind dubs, and a subed version for those who perfer original voices.

I just saw it & thought it was AWESOME.

Packed theatre & nobody walked out. I imagine if people walked out they just didnt realize there was going to be sub-titles & were too lazy (or couldn't) read.
