New York Hotels

Me,my girl & 5 close friends want to do some christmas shopping the week before the 24th.

On my previous trips to nyc I stayed in either helmsley or astoria.

However my friends are no heavy earners. I don't want them to spend a lot of their money on the hotel so I am searching for something moderate the average joe-earner can afford. But this also does not mean I wanna end up in a shabby hotel where I fear being robbed while sleeping - you know what I mean .

My offline travel agent recommended us to stay at the pennsylvania. However I have seen that one last year when I've been watching a game at madison square and I didn't really like it. Anyone seen the interior or even rooms...

All comments regarding NY hotels are appreciated
names & urls welcome ;)

embassy suites down the road from the WTC.

Just stayed there a week, its all suite and an amazing breakfast bar that's included.

High speed access and a very nice channel selection on the cable.

The Westin in Times Square is my favorite. I've stayed there each trip to NYC I've made in the past 18 months.
