    A Scorpion Just Stung Me in the Foot (Pics)

    Fucking hey, I'm just sitting here working on the computer, doing an FTV coverpage in photoshop, when ouch I felt like someone stuck a pin in my foot. Then I look down a fucking scorpion is just sitting there smiling. I captured it, put it in one of my microdrive casings. I think I'll leave the fucker there.

    My foot is tingling, will probably be partially numb for a couple of days. Doesn't hurt no more than a bee sting though, maybe less.

                              At my house in California I once found 2 scorpions on our 2nd floor crawling right near the master bedroom.

                              One of my German Shepherds got one of the fuckers and he was playing with it in his mouth, droping it and picking it up again.

                              I think he sensed it would hurt us and was doing all he could to protect us.

                              He started foaming and we rushed him to the Vets and they gave him a shot and he was ok, just a bit stumbly.

                              Can you imagine if one of those had crawled in the bed.

                                                                                          For my 'real job' a DMD (Ie. Dentist), I've kept abreast of general medical first aid issues for AZ, whether its scorpions, west nile, or anthrax. As long as I have no history of allergies to bee stings etc... Its just an inconvenience. Brown scorpions -- they hurt, but they don't do any real damage. Just make you numb for several days, and give you a bit of a headache.

                                                                                                      It looks a little too big and too light to be bark, but with the numbness it might be.

                                                                                                      If you've got some meat tenderizer in the house, wet the sting a little bit and put a paste of that on it. It will draw out the poison faster. You can also use tobacco.

                                                                                                      I'd stick the little guy in the freezer too, it's fucking amazing how they can be frozen for like six months and still come back to sting you again ;)

                                                                                                                      I have a little pet, 'Mr Toad' a horned toad lizard who hangs around the house... usually takes care of smaller guys but not big scorps.
                                                                                                                      I rescued it from my swimming pool (drowning) and it crept up my shoulder, and been around the house ever since. Does a good job of eating creepy crawlies.

                                                                                                                                                          North Scottdale is even more prone to Scorps. Especially the newly built areas near the mountains. Yeah, I'm still alive, actually the pain is now gone, just some numbness, not too bad.

                                                                                                                                                          The scorpion is also doing well, occasionally snapping & attacking the casing its in.

                                                                                                                                                          Maybe I'll bring it with me when I meet up with Jeff from ccbill tomorrow lol

                                                                                                                                                                          They are amazing, they're like natures most perfect predator. If you mean the black ones like in Mexico that are poisonous, no. There are something like 45 varieties in Az, with the bark scorpion being the only one that's really any danger at all unless you are allergic to them.

                                                                                                                                                                          Symptoms from the bark are numbness in the affected areas and the more you use the limb the further up it goes -- for instance if you are stung on the hand and you wave the arm around you might get numb up to your face.

                                                                                                                                                                          Small children and old or sick people can be in danger from them, but a healthy adult without an allergy usually is fine in a day or so except for some lingering tenderness at the sting.

                                                                                                                                                                          If you've got crickets at your house in Az, you do not have scorpions, since that's their favorite food. They like to hide and wait on their prey in cooler, dark areas but sometimes they do come out. Exterminators usually use a powder to kill them, after they walk across it they not only die but will track it back to the nest if there is one and the babies will die as well.

                                                                                                                                                                          I don't live in Az any more, but when I did, McDowell Mtn Ranch was the place I had the most of them, followed by Paradise Valley. When I lived at 44th and Camelback I never saw another one, mostly because that area is older and doesnt have huge acreage for each home like PV does.

                                                                                                                                                                          I've got a metal scorpion sculpture in my living room now and the stinger catches people that walk by on their pants leg if they aren't careful ;)
