well, my domain is in my name now but Andrew still hadn't sent me an email to confirm the price and that I did NOT taking hosting. So, I called them and the guy barely spoke English, which isn't his fault but not fantastic on a help line.

Who'd you hear that from? I have my inside sources from companies who bulk order hundreds of domains a day tell me the quota is about $3/domain.

Anyways, if it IS an estimated $6, eNom earns some of its profit from "scam" sites such as iregistrations.com, and the such.

I will not get into such matters as they are complex and raise controversial issues.

Those who have been deep into the domain game know what I'm talking about.

I have still yet to receive my email. It did say it could take up to 48 hours. Looks like the domains are reg'd. Guess I'll keep waiting. I can stand to lose $25 and not be too pissed.

AdultNex 08-25-2004 06:56 AM

48 hours for a reply? :uhoh

I guess I'll just stick to EV1 for bulk regs...

I contacted them for orders of 200 or more, and the pricing structure is still the same.

I don't know how much more you need to purchase for a discount, if any.

That's the price. It's not $3. Enom makes its money from
resellers. They have hundreds of thousands of them. Pretty
much everyone in the domain game is a reseller of Enom.

Enom does not make money from scam sites, but there are a
handful of registrars that are pretty shady.

With a deal like that I would say they are probably pretty busy and they probably wont have the fastest service at the moment.

Can't really complain though.

Can you give me a quick overview of how the whole behind the scenes action works with registrars etc.

If enom pays verisign $6 per .com etc how are some other registrars able to charge $3.99 $5.99 etc.

Who is in charge of the whole thing?

Thanks,

Spankstrocko

They take a loss initially so they can draw you to their other services generally.

They get better prices from verisign by prepaying for the domains in massive bulk ,
No Verisign charges everyone $6 per registration and I believe ICANN charges an annual 12 cents per domain (however I am not 100% sure on that one).

In order to be a registrar you have to invest an amount that would pretty much guarantee you're dealing in bulk.

Lol! You rely on your "inside sources" than. It is public information (go read www.incann.org) how the registry works. Anyone (with the exception of MAYBE NSI) who is selling domains at under $6 is taking a loss somewhere in order to sell for those prices. Most of the "registrars" you see are actually reselling for eNom as Luc said. Simply because eNom has one of (if not) the best reseller programs going. But you keep to your "inside sources" who are paying Verisign $3 per domain :winkwink:

yup, I have had domains with them for the past year. I would still rather directnic but if there is a domain that I am not so sure about I register it there and transfer it later when it becomes more valuable to me.

From what it sounds like dot5 is definately fucking people around. I hate the fact companies are outsourcing so much customer service its just pathetic.

I am curious whats so good about eNom reselling? Anyone have some points to make on this subject it would be appreciated.

:thumbsup

*nods* it is why I always put through one 'throw away' domain first as a test.
