Minimum megapixels to have for a digital cam?

What would you say is the minimum megapixels to have for a digital camera for good quality?

If you have never had a digital camera before and want to play around to get a feel for them then go for a cheapie with low megapixels.

But if you've already spent time playing with cameras then don't look any lower than a 4 mexapixel camera.

The prices for good cameras in the 4 mp range are so low it's almost wasting your money to buy anything less.

That's a good way to turn yourself off to digital photography. All the low end cameras I've tried had such slow shutters I could never hold them still enough to take a clear picture and when I did manage to brace it for one just one "zoom-in" when looking at the pic went so blocky it looked like magnified newsprint.
