I think you guys are missing the point -- this decision has opened the internet, not closed it. The US judge ruled (generally speaking) that other countries would not be able to make legal decisions against what we can provide openly on the net... so what's good for the goose is...
We probably already provide plenty of porn to the Chinese people anyway... even though it's illegal there, right? Why should we restrict Chinese traffic? There's no way to block all Chinese traffic anyway. The flow of traffic is like the flow of water... you plug the leak with one finger and another leak will trickle out somewhere else... If someone in France wants to buy Nazi merchandise -- I'm sure that Yahoo's ban on such material won't stop anyone from buying such things on the web... I think it's sad though that all this Nazi crap has to be at the core of such an important legal decision. Don't you remember when Doom came out!? They banned sales of Doom in France because of all the Nazi references in the game. All these things that are banned on Yahoo and Ebay (like used panties hehe) -- will just create new markets for the little guys like us to exploit. ------------------ Oliver-Klozov.com Associate / Five-Elements.com Partner (Hosting/Perl Code) / TheFLY.net Webmaster |

Fly -- In China the government tries to stop all porn from being viewed, that's what I was referring to.
If you're right about what the decision means then I misunderstood it. I have an inherent mistrust of our government and I assumed it would eventually be used to stop Americans from seeing foreign porn sites. ![]() |

http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/hague.html
Quote: "The Hague treaty is not actually about patents, or about copyrights, or about censorship, but it affects all of them. It is a treaty about jurisdiction, and how one country should treat the court decisions of another country. The basic idea is reasonable enough: If someone hits your car in France or breaks a contract with your French company, you can sue him in France, then bring the judgment to a court in whichever country he lives in (or has assets in) for enforcement." It's worth the read. ------------------ wiZd0m Fortune Pussy Adult Links [This message has been edited by wiZd0m (edited 06-12-2001).] |
