My theory on Old Thread Bumps and How it happened...

Alot of us already know that password selection is important to the security of our identities. Choosing an easy to guess password can result in our accounts being compromised by unscrupulous keyboard warriors. Below is a list of the top 10 most common passwords:

god
love
lust
money
private
qwerty
secret
sex
snoopy
password

If you currently use any of these, or maybe you use something that is fairly simple to guess, you may want to consider changing it to something more difficult to hack.

I recommend selecting a password that is at least 6 characters, that contains alpha and numeric characters.

Here's a scenerio that may be how the recent "Lensman is a hypocrite" old thread bumps have occured.

If I were to write a "loginbot", which plugs a list of usernames into the login form, along with common passwords, after a short time I could have it return a list of valid logins.

for($threadid=1; $threadid <= 1000; $threadid++) { FUNCTION }

From there, I can have another bot start posting to old threads based on their $threadid, since most threads are in sequential order, unless they have been deleted by moderation.

Let's use some common sense with this.

You better go tell Duke Floored about that. I'm sure he has 8 of out of 10 passwords there that he uses.

Regardless, it is pretty lame to begin with. I mean, bumping old threads is "pretty old."

Seen it thousands of times already.

However lame it may be to bump old threads, this is a "real life" concern. If you select a common password for your online banking login, this could have some serious consequences. This doesn't just apply to your message board logins.

if you select a common password for your bank accounts, then you deserve to get cleaned out. That is just dumb.

So, naive people deserve to be taken advantage of? Is this part of your business model as well as your morals?

Again, I would give Luke.. shit I mean Duke Floored heads up on the Bank account stuff.

Next time you start a thread like this just put those 10 words and that's it. See how many people say "has someone hacked my computer???"
