Well it IS your best team because if some players are to selfish that they cant put themselves out to play for the olympics they shouldn't really be considered part of the country anyway. That's not the type of person I'd like to have living in Australia.

Completely unfair analysis. When the best American basketball players were invited to play on the Olympic team they look back and see strings of 40 and 50 point wins and dominating performances. In short, boring lopsided games in which they would best estimate that they weren't needed. It's always been that way so why would they expect it to be any different?

I see critics calling the american players "primadonnas". Was the 1992 team that beat Croatia by 40 and Lithuania by 50 primadonnas? Of course not. They cared as much to win just as much as anyone else. Nor is this team's players. They are a group with many younger and third tier players getting a lot of playing time. They seem to be giving it their all to me.

International play has improved tremendously in recent years. Many NBA players hadn't been aware of that.

Things change. It has taken more than 100 games played for international play to catch up with the America's third tier players. Eventually, even the best American players will be matched around the globe. Why wouldn't they?

And here I thought Australians tended to look down upon patriotism. You guys are feverish patriots, eh? "For my country".

I never realized Australians were so much more patriotic than we Americans. Well, knock yourself out and wave those flags, friend.

I've never been much of a fan of the olympics. At least from an American's point of view there aren't the same level of rivalries as you see in a professional sports league. I occasionally watch a little track and field and maybe a basketball game here or there but I can't say I've ever cared who wins in gymnastics.
