i just got prescribed some xanax to help with anxiety that i've experienced lately due to some shitty circumstances... i just took one for the first time and now i dont know if i like it.. i just feel numb and tired. but i guess it helps relieve the anxiety... anyways, anybody taken it before?

Medication is for pussies. All the meds I have ever taken is some paracetamol during childhood fevers.
If you want to tackle anxiety or panic attacks you need to fix the underlying cause rather than attempting to smooth over its effects. I had it once, but read up on what it was and immediately took steps to endure less stress and get more sleep. If you can't end it as easily as that, try getting more exercise and nutritional meals.

I take Ativan, works great, no side effects except it makes you sleepy. I think I'm getting addicted though cuz if I don't take it the anxiety is worse than ever. I'm on Prednisone for Crohn's which causes the anxiety, so maybe after I get off that I'll stop taking Ativan.Comment

im going to check out this book Dont Panic - ive always hated pills and pharmaceutical co's ... but if you dont know what a real panic attack is, you wouldnt understand. but im gonna check it out (now).
smit - just be careful and try not to stay on it too long - it gets fucking addictive. if its just anxiety related to an occurence and not a chemical imbalance, dont take it longer than you need to. Dont be worried though, its pretty safe other than risk of addiction (prolonged use) ... my dog even takes it when there are bad thunderstorms ;)Comment

Xanax is good stuff. Very addictive. Keep the dosage steady. That sedated feeling will wear off and when you take it after a while you won't feel anything except calm and well thought out.
If you keep chasing that sedated feeling, you'll find yourself doing 10mg's a day and that will be very very hard to stop.
But if you keep it steady and take it to keep the edge off and help you focus, and not get stressed out, then you will love it. If you take it to feel sedated, then you have mild depression and are using it to kill the pain...that's when it is not so good for you.

Xanax is good for anxiety. However, it is highly addictive and should be taken only as directed. If it makes you tired, just half the dose for today. Good Luck with it. Everything will improve soon, have confidence!

Smit, I have had anxiety attacks/panic attacks since I was 17. The major side effect of xanax is depression...I wouldn't take it if I were you- it's just going to add to all the other shit thats going on. Ask your doctor for Ativan- less habit forming and milder than xanax.

one time I was drinking and taking xanax and we sitting on folding chairs on the second floor of my friends house and I was so relaxed I was leaning to one side and the chair went that way and I was falling down the first flight of stairs(about 7 steps) and was stuck. me and my friends were laughingso hard cuz I couldn't get up.
