It's tuners. You can pull a $2k car out of a junk yard and make it fast.

The Evo is an awesome bang for the buck. No doubt about that.

However there is more to a car than just pure performance #s. There is ride/build quality, exclusivness, style (subjective of course), handling/overall feel of the car, and status of course (if you think cars aren't bought for status you're kidding yourself).

If money were no object and you'd choose the Evo over the Mercedes, Lamborghini, Viper, Audi, etc. then I just don't understand you

well money IS an issue so not many people have the chance to buy a car to race, that will keep up with exotic builds.

i never said that if money wasnt an issue that i would pick an evo over a lamborghini or another proformance car, but, when not everyone is able to spend 100K on a car, so the evo is a great choice, affordable and still has balls to keep up with the big toys, its all in the boost though, without that turbo the evo wouldnt be keeping up with them.

...once again the bigger picture is... the $30,000 car's numbers are not that far from those $200,000 cars numbers.

Thats why I said it's a great bang for the buck and a great car for those on a budget who want to go fast

Also, I haven't seen #s on that specific EVO. It could be a $100k evo after all the mods they've done, who knows.

good point john, i was assuming it was stock for stock cars... only mod i would consider not much of a mod is boost psi, which for a evo can do well. (as for any forced induction car)

Very inpressive number for sure but...Its called over tunning. Notice all the DNF's(did not finish). Ill bet 100 to one the evo broke down in every test..over tunning.

Many cars can be fast..but who gives a fuck if they dont last ;)

... i dont know about the evo, but a kid benny around here removed the wastegate on his SRT4(turbo neon) and boosts 30psi.... he ran 12.4

...but then again me and about 9 other friends have a pool going on to see who guesses the closest date to when he blows the engine up

30psi on a stock motor, lol. His head must lift 3 inches off the block at full boost. I'll bet he blew a headgasket at first pass and didnt even notice.

actually, its been holding up fairly well which is suprising all of us, i know there are factory freaks but come on! im sure that engine has some damage and he just dont see it, but as far as i know, the engine is holding up stong as can be, i did hear that something did go wrong, but it was fixed within the day, so it wasnt anything major...

Tough little fuckers those Neons..eheh

Actually Im thinking of chipping (stage 1) my Turbo Audi A4. I can get an extra 45 HP on pump gas and no other mods. From what I hear its 100% safe as well, no detonation.

For 2.5K I can get a stage 3 kit that includes the chip, a bigger turbo, bigger down pipe, and bigger intercooler. The set up is good for about 300 HP(total). Sounds like alot of fun but im sure it would reduce reliabilty 10 fold.

In the post, they say:

"All those DNF's (did not finish) in the picture above were for that same run in which the intercooler hose blew off. As we can see they were able to get the hose to stay put and make up for it during the other runs."
