here's a gallery newbies article I have had written but haven't published yet.. you may get something out of it...
A gallery is a single page site, consisting of marketing text, graphics, images or movies, or a hybrid of both. Manipulation is the name of the game when it comes to gallery creation. The surfer is your target and the goal is to get him to click off your gallery, go to your sponsor site, and buy a membership. Once the surfer becomes a member of the pay site, you earn money. It sounds simple; and, in theory, it is. Putting the theories into play, with the goal of making sales, requires skill. Galleries can be very profitable and are for many webmasters. Many earn a very nice living from galleries and they do so because they have figured out how to manipulate the surfer in the shortest amount of time. Before building your first gallery, make a list of the tools you need. Planning is integral in this business and there is more to gallery making than slapping images and words on a page. This is an art form, requiring marketing skills to tease your surfer into clicking your ad. Give too much and your surfer has the orgasm. Give too little and he's bored. The successful gallery is a delicate balance of graphics, content, layout, colours, and marketing text. Researching the niche you're going to promote is essential toward creating a marketable gallery. If you are not familiar with the niche you've chosen, you'll fail. The words are harsh; but, reality is what it is. You have to know enough about what you're promoting to purchase content efficiently, contemplate site layout, and write enticing marketing text. From background colours to alt tags, there is much to learn when you create your first gallery. As a beginner, you may be more comfortable choosing a genre to which you can relate. If mature women don't turn you on, consider another age group. What floats your boat gives you an edge in an area where you need all the advantages you can get. Teens may not be the best place to start, although it can certainly be the most lucrative, if you know how to market to the teen audience. There's a lot of competition out there for the teen market, so choosing a sub niche may give you the edge you need. An example of this would be teens in nursing outfits. Sexy eighteen year old nurses could give a dead man an erection, so it stands to reason you've chosen an interesting subject, which should do well. The combination of using teen models in uniforms accomplishes two things. You're narrowing your market, which may bring fewer hits than the general category of teens. At the same time, you're still targeting the surfers who are into teen models. Believe it or not, certain colours go with certain niches. This is why it is so important for you to research. Visit several sponsor sites. Choose the tour you think is marketable for the niche you're going to pre sell. Look at the colours they've used on their site. Every webmaster needs to find adequate hosting for projected bandwidth usage. When you're new to the industry, it's hard to predict how much you'll burn. If you submit to very large TGPS, marketing teens, make sure you've got a hosting account set up for some high-end usage. The host you choose for any site is vital to your success. For gallery building, having the right host can mean the difference between sales and no sales. Ask many questions when you shop for the one who will host your galleries. Make sure your page does not contain too much extraneous code. Many of the HTML editors, such as Front Page and Dreamweaver, insert extra coding onto your page. If you're going to use either of these, take the time to exclude the extras or learn to hand code. If your page doesn't load quickly, you lose. Remember this. The surfer has thousands and thousands of galleries from which to choose, so yours needs to load lightening fast. Surfers do not like to wait and they WILL click off and move onto the next gallery. The marketing text for your gallery has to be short and to the point. With few exceptions, men scan. They don't necessarily read every word. Punchy. Spicy. Teasing. Short words, sentences or phrases. You don't have time to waste, nor does your surfer. Don't make a horny man try to figure out what you're saying. Cutesy text does not sell and surfers can?t read your mind. Keep it straight and on target. Many men are colour blind. Using a blue background with red text is not a good idea. Some colours do not go together. The combination of certain shades can be enough to give your surfer a seizure, which will certainly affect any potential sales. Make sure your content coordinates with the sponsor tour you're pre selling. If you're marketing brunettes, don't put blonde images on your gallery. Be careful with the content you choose. Many TGPS won't accept galleries without some nudity. There are few exceptions; but, if your niche is lingerie or pin up babes, you may have to write to the TGP owner to get permission to submit a gallery without any naked shots. When you're finished with your gallery, stand behind your desk chair and look at it. Really look at it. See where your eye is drawn. Anything that distracts your eye will certainly distract your surfer's eye. You want them to click on your ad. That is the goal. If your eye is drawn away from your advertising, something isn't laid out correctly. Tweak it until your eye is drawn to your ad. Ask yourself these questions. 'What do I see when I first glance at my gallery?' 'What makes my gallery stand out?' There are some niches, which require heavier graphics, and there are some that don't. Research. Find out whether you need graphically intense pages; otherwise, adhere to the 'keep it simple' philosophy. Make sure you include alt tags and search engine food. Single page sites do get spidered. Yours should be no exception. When you think your gallery is finished, begin the submission process. At the beginning of this article, it was stated that planning is an integral part of this business. Part of your overall plan is to choose where you submit. If you only use auto-submission programs, you will not be accepted to many major TGPS. Hand submission to a carefully chosen list, over a period of time, can potentiate sales. Your eventual goal is to become a trusted partner, so your galleries are accepted each time. Follow the rules. Always follow the rules. Being blacklisted can be permanent and TGP owners don't have the time nor the patience to allow too many mistakes. Some don't allow one. Since it's their playground, it's their rules. Once you've made your first sale, you'll know you have a template that works. Don't over use it. Be encouraged that you've found a formula that works. Pat yourself on the back because you made the first sale and then get back to work, creating more galleries. |
