Free sites...

How many do you guys make a day?
I'm shooting for one a day to begin with...but it's really hard to meet that goal and still spend time with my kids, right now. What I've been doing is making my layouts when the little ones are up and about and working on the coding when they go to bed so I can focus more. It's been better, but I'm still not there yet.
I'm trying to set some short and long term goals, and I thought knowing what you guys did may help. I'm hoping by Christmas to be averaging a grand a month, so I have to make a damn schedule and stick to it to get there. Just what works for me, lol, to keep me on track.

Agreed, you could make freesite templates and do 5-6 a day if you wanted.

I imagine you can only submit 2-3 at most a day...Same for galleries, make a nice collection then combine and edit them to make more quickly.

You can also set up your recips in templates so its just click click build...all you'll do is make thumbs and change up the text.

I have 3 kids at home with me all day/night 11, 7 and 4 and i get lots of work done with them here. Just do all your text/html/table type work all day, and even your submitting can be done (no images on most submit pages) Then do the juicy stuff at night.

You know, I try to be very cool about the things people say on here...it being GFY and all, but I bristled at this comment...Are you trying to say that people with children shouldn't be in this biz?

I have my office separate from the living areas of my home, with a locked door. I have my desk set so the kids can not see my screen even if they do barge in. I have a password protected XP account for all my adult biz related data. I have a locked file cabinet for my paper records. The times when my kids HAVE to use my computer (I only have one) for homework or whatnot, I am supervising. I think, being aware of what's out there as I am, I am probably more attentive to what my children are exposed to online than 90% of non-industry employed parents.

Any parent who works full time outside of the home is away from their children for 40+ hours a week. I hardly think that me spending two-three hours a day working from home, while my older kids are in school anyway and just my infant and toddler are around, is taking too much time from them.
I am used to spending all my time with them....playing with them and doing housework was pretty much my life. I'm trying to start a business here, without too much of an adjustment all at once for my kids, which is why I'm only doing one site a day to begin with. It's damn hard to complete that one site when you are getting up every 45 seconds to tend to a child, but obviously my kids are my priority or I would be churning sites out while my kids were neglected, eh?

I make a bunch of sites all at once then I submit a couple a day. Its a lot more efficient to a lot of building at once.. when you already have all the tools open.

Last batch I did.. I made over 100 in like 3-4 days.

We build and submit a free site with about 2-3 hours worth of work. Probably faster than some while slower than others, but it's the results that really matter.

Chase, do your best to stick with 1 daily. Don't worry about doing multiples just yet. Stick with one daily, day in and day out, and by month 3 you'll start to see those sales rack up. Don't be discouraged if the first month or 2 make you very small amounts, stick with it. If you build one daily starting tomorrow, you'll have no problem clearing $1k a month by Christmas.

Thanks everybody..I like the bulk idea too....if i spend a day a week doing the parts that require my undivided attention, than I can spend the rest of the week finishing and submitting. I can get my mom to watch the kids for one day a week, I'm sure.
Anyway, here are two samples:
Tender Teen Feet , and Slutty Housewives .
Gawd, I feel so shy showing them, lol.
I don't use shady techniques....I try for no pop-up tours, and I am now adding that to my sponsor banner alt tags so the surfers know that.
I don't risk overkill with my ads....I try to keep it to 1-2 per page. I'm not trying to piss the surfer off, but I'm mainly trying to build with the SE and link lists in mind.
I'll take creative criticism, but I like attagirls, too, lol. I don't have any formal training whatsoever, so my coding know-how is limited, as well as design, lol, so please don't confuse me with xml, php, and java stuff...I'll be completely clueless!

automation will fuck you up, run your shit dry and make your advertising stale.

I have been doing them by hand now for a few months and it's paying off for us. If I automated everything we would be using the same advertising on every instance of a template and that's not good.

Here's the trick. Once you have 12-15 sites just start reusing layouts and ad text. Mix em up and just write a new "story" for each site as well as color/font combinations. If I find myself in a major rush to get one up I can do one in 30 mins with mirroring and custom thumb cropping and storyline text on each page.

People always try to automate things and it just creates subpar results. I have tried training people to build freesites before and all they did was say "I can get my coder to do this and that and make a lot of money" then 2 weeks later say "freesites suck" and go do something else. Of the people who still build by hand, all are still building. What does that tell you?

stat at link-o-rama.com and follow his link trades to build a submission list. Make about 12 tables of 9 recips and 2 months later remove lists that don't list you or don't send more than 100 hits per week. Then add new ones, repeat, rinse, repeat and repeat again until you have a perfect list. If after each removal you notice sales drop dramatically, put ones back in the list that you suspect may be doing this. it's trial and error.

We are nowhere near completing our list, in fact, we never will be, new sites open, policies change on older sites, traffic changes and quality changes almost on a weekly basis.

It's not so much satisfying surfers and link list owners as it is that .. what if the advertising method you chose to template out on all automated sites is no good? You need to have many different types of advertising and different 'tricks' going on until you find out what works. Not only what works but not all surfers are created equal, some might snag on the "PUSSIES MASHED TOGETHER LIKE FUCKING A MASHED POTATO!" while others might picture it and get turned on cause they like food fucking lesbians. who knows

however reusing templates can be a good thing so long as it's not carbon copy. I reuse general layouts at times if I find a layout and color scheme that racks in good sales. but put them all in a row and you'd think they were different. Just the way I do them.

OK,I know XPorn is right about the first set of thumbs, lol.
I used Photoshop to make the teen feet site thumbs, and you're right, they did come out pixely. I'm not sure how to fix that or why it happened though...I've used that method before and they turned out fine.
The second site's thumbs were provided that way, so I didn't have to make them, and I can't take credit for them, lol.

use the save for web feature in photoshop and set it to 45 percent quality. Thumbs turn out PERFECT on that compression.

Hey there chase..I know how hard it is trying to raise kids and make a buck. Keep up with it and you will reach your goals. I checked out the foot site and overall it looks sorty cute. That is not a bad thing, I personally find that a lot of times if things look too professional the surfer thinks big coroporation..and are less likely to click. So that is good. Your number one priority though should be to work on your thumb quality. Didn't check out what you did, but don't just put the size you want the pic in your html and have it size it down...actually make a thumb. There is a program called Thumbs Plus that does a decent job of making thumbs. If you don't have that, you can can just do the thumbs by hand in anything from Photoshop to paint. Just crop it to the size you want it...88 x88 90 x 120 etc.
Quality of thumbs is extremely important. If they aren't good..people take one look and leave..they dont click on the pics to make them full size and chances are they aren't going to be clicking on any banners either.

Go back and change your html on the page and they'll look better. I didn't look at all of your thumbs, but the ones I did are actually 75 x 56. You have them set up at 66 x 100 in your coding, which is causing the distortion. Just change that in the html to reflect the true size. However, in the future make them larger. I think 100 x 150 should be the minimum.

chase, since you use photoshop you can crop your thumbs the old fashioned way like i do. Simple set your crop size for the size you want...then load all of the images into photoshop. I have an action to sharpen to make things quicker...so once all the photos are loaded in photoshop...I take the crop tool, select where I want it to crop...hit ok, hit F5 (my action to sharpen) hit "save for web" and then save it. Go to the next. To crop and sharpen the entire set I am using only takes a couple of minutes.

Occasionally I use thumbs plus if I am doing a ton of thumbs...and I want the thumb to be the entire pic rather than just a particular section of the pic like I do in photoshop.

That's cool.....so you just crop out the background and extra space around the action so the thumb is more focused on it?

You gotta figure, though, I'm a stay-at-home-mom, so everything I make is extra cash. I'm not trying to live off of it...I don't have time to go balls out and still take care of the infant and toddler I have at home. If I had daycare...well...that's another story...I'd raise my goals significantly, and when I met them, pull my husband off his lawn crew and train him with what I've learned from you guys, other boards, and articles/tutorials.

LOL YOU try making shit with a 1 year old and an almost 3year old to take care of all day, and then a 9 & 10 year old after school!
Also, I've had no training whatsoever....everything regarding html and photoshop I've taught myself, with the noted exceptions of the tips I've received here. Pick on them if if makes you feel better, but I'm impressed with myself for having just started this less than six weeks ago.
