    Do you surf GFY with the advertising disabled? And why?

    Just wondering how much of an impact the more annoying GFY banners have had on the number of people surfing GFY without ads. I wonder how much smaller the exposure is for advertisers since people started blocking adverts.

    I didn't mind the adverts with sound that ended after you took your mouse away. Slightly annoying, but not to the point where i'd go out of my way to block it. But some of the more recent ones with sound that continues after mouse off... Too fucking annoying.

          If they actually used a nice perhaps ambient sound, something that faded in and out and had normal audio levels it might not be too bad.

          Why they have to use the most annoying nerve wrecking sounds I have no idea.

              Yeah. The OCCash banner for example. I quite liked that one. Don't think it faded in or out from memory, but at least the sound did turn off after you took your mouse away.

                  And the Hustler banner is another reason why I keep them off.

                  I turn them on at times to check out whats happening, everytime that banner comes on, it makes me ALT+F4 the page ASAP.

                          1. i hate flash
                          2. i hate stupid sounds they make
                          3. huge banners slow down the board

                                          Not really. I just wanted to see how much this whole sound issue has been affecting the advertisers here. It's kinda fucked up. The guys that make the most annoying banners get all the publicity, and it's the guys that don't rape our ears who end up getting punished the most 'cause their adverts are inevitably blocked along with the annoying ones.

                                          Sigs don't really mean shit. If i were an advertiser at GFY, i'd be mighty pissed off about those who use sound. I mean, look at the results so far. 64% blocking ads because of sound. That's a huge difference to the exposure an advertiser is going to get. And i know only a few people have voted so far, but i'd be really surprised if the final result wasn't very close to 50%.

                                                                              It's kind of counterproductive to surf a webmaster board with sigs turned off. One of the biggest reasons for being on the boards is networking and sigs are one of the best way to match up with partners. I've found many interesting things through people's sigs.

                                                                              Ads on the otherhand are becoming another matter. The Hustler banner inspired me to try ad blocking software for the first time. Unfortunately the shareware I'm trying just blocks all flash by domain. I'm still trying to find a program that will let me block one specific ad without penalizing everybody

                                                                                                  In my browser, I have flash turned off and the content filter turned on, which blocks any kind of banner or any link with the word banner in it. I haven't seen an ad or heard an annoying sound around here in months. I fucken love it. And the board is so much faster.

                                                                                                  I agree that it's nice to be able to see most banners and take advantage of the advertising and new programs. It's unfortunate that a few idiotic programs had to be so damn annoying and obtrusive that they pushed webmasters to block everyone. We're not goddamn surfers and we don't want to be bombarded with that shit. I've really never figured out why that's so hard to realize.

They are just so fucking annoying. I have never clicked on one, and don't promote the companies that run them...

                                                                                                                                              I have however clicked, signed up, and promoted companies with informative or catchy banners (that don't include sound), especially ones promoting bonus signup days or new features. Unfortunately I don't get to see those ones anymore.
