Katie and I were picnicing on the shores of the Shenadoah River, just below the Georgia state line, one hot, sunny August afternoon almost three years ago today. We feasted ourselves on cold roasted chicken, macaroni salad, and bread pudding all washed down with cold apple cider, and afterwards, we decided to take a short dip to cool ourselves from the hot Florida Panhandle sun.

Katie saw what she thought was a 12" competition-style Frisbee passing by innocently in the water, and before I had time to warn her she reached out to grab the floating disc only to be instantly swarmed by thousands of vicious fire ants. The ball of death completely consumed her sweet little body in a matter of seconds, and I could only watch helplessly as I watched her skeleton sink into the muddy waters below.

Thanks a lot you bastards for bringing this up today, I thought I had repressed that horrible image of Katie's death forever. http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/images...es/NEW/321.gif

Sounds like she got OWNED.
Nice story though. :thumbsup

This thread stirred an interest, and I searched for floating ant balls on Google.

I found this page, with the exact same story as above.

I will never swin in any flood waters again! Actually, I never had. Those ants sure know how to work together though, jeez. So powerful in their groups.

Occasionally ants migrate in the rainforests in South America...imagine a line of millions of ants killing and eating everything in their path :) Those little fuckers can cause alot of destruction.

you had to find it somewhere else on the internet to realise it was bullshit?

com3 09-06-2004 03:34 AM

random fact:

an ant will live underwater for about 2 weeks before it drowns.

bllott 07-10-2005 01:59 PM

"If detergent is sprayed on and around the mass of ants, the surface tension of the water is weakened to the point that the entire mass sinks and drowns."

hence carry detergent on you, if you get some on you, put it on yourself and you'll be ok

Steve 07-10-2005 02:01 PM

I hate those little fucking bastards

Fire ants = no joke. Very dangerous!

blackfeet 08-28-2005 08:31 PM

i saw ants carry off a dead fly yesterday.

Linkster 08-28-2005 08:35 PM

I would say the biggest danger would be the snakes and alligators coming in from the swamps right outside the city - if the lake really goes over the levee they'll be everywhere
Although Ive never found a cottonmouth to be aggressive - they usually never strike unless you walk on them and the families of them I have on my property usually slither off the other direction when Im out bush-hogging and the alligators just sink their heads below water.

NoComments 08-28-2005 08:37 PM

shit, I thought you meant Anthony's balls...
